PREPARATION

Please prepare two contrasting monologues, 1–2 minutes in length. Sides may be provided at audition time, subject to the needs of the producers. Please bring your headshot and resume.

SOUL SACRIFICE

Synopsis: Set in East Los Angeles in the late 1960s and the present day, Soul Sacrifice follows the Flores family as they navigate the Vietnam War and the Chicano civil rights movement. When their son Luie is drafted, the family must confront war, activism, grief, and the long-term effects of trauma. This powerful intergenerational story examines sacrifice, identity, and the enduring strength of family.

LUIE

Latino — Male. Can convincingly play both ages 19 & 44. He is a smart, sweet, caring and soft-spoken brother and son before he gets drafted to Vietnam.

RACHEL

Latina — Female. Can convincingly play both ages 21 & 46. The oldest girl in the family who becomes the surrogate mother to her younger siblings, especially when there is turmoil in the house.

BEN

Latino — Male. Can convincingly play both ages 17 & 42. A younger and more politically aware teenager who has a keen understanding of the law. He is an organizer involved in community outreach. Doubles as BUDDY, a 19 year old soldier in Vietnam.

CONNIE

Latina — Female. Can convincingly play both ages 9 & 34. A smart yet sensitive little girl. The youngest in the family who is protected by and close to all her siblings.
