Audition appointments will be on a first come, first served basis beginning on the morning of the audition day. The space will be open on the morning of the audition and they will start taking sign-ups at 9:30am. If you have any questions please contact our local casting director, Wally Ziegler. Equity actors for roles in Laguna Playhouse 2023-24 Season (See breakdown).

PREPARATION

Please prepare two contrasting monologues or one monologue and one song selection. Audition should not exceed three minutes total. An accompanist will be provided. Bring sheet music in the proper key, plus headshot and resume.

SEEKING:

[BILL STARBUCK] Male, mid to late 30s. A big man, lithe, agile, charming, romantic, quick-witted dreamer and conman. He’s been on the run for a long time, and he fears that the con may be catching up to him.

[LIZZIE CURRY] Female, late 20s. Strong and self-assured on the surface, she hides a deep longing - for no man outside of her family has thought of her as beautiful, and she is bordering on spinsterhood. She seems reconciled to that inevitability; and refuses to play girlish games to attract a man. She knows her place in the family: daughter, sister, mother, child. She is very bright and organized.

[H.C. CURRY] Male, 60s. A good, kind man, a widower, powerfully set, devoted patriarch to his family and struggling ranch. Willing to dream.

[JIM CURRY] Male, 20 years old. The youngest brother. Strong, good-looking, girl crazy, gangly farm boy. None too bright, he is immature and easily excitable. He resents being bossed around all the time.

[FILE] Male, late 30s. The deputy sheriff. Lean, reticent, intelligent, lonely, bitter, wry sense of humor. He hides a shameful betrayal from his past, and so he is distrustful and doesn’t open up to people easily.

[LUSIA WEISS] Female, 20s-early 30s. Yiddish and American accent. Just arrived to America. Has experienced Nazi concentration camps. Very cautious, searching, tentative.

[DUVID] Male, 30s-40s. Lusia’s husband. Yiddish & American accent. Has experienced & survived concentration camps. Playful, tender, & loving.
