ROSETTA: (CAST). Female. 40s-50s, Black. Pretty, vivacious, an irrepressible spirit. A mean guitar player with a bluesy voice. Plays spirituals that swing.

MARIE: Female. 20s-30s. Black. A more traditional alto gospel singer but still a powerhouse voice, plays piano (not required). Not exactly as she appears. On her way to being a spiritual star.

As the day wears on, truths are revealed, revolution draws near, and someone is losing a limb before the sun sets.

UBRU: Male, 40s-60s, any race, equivalent to a modern-day cliché Boomer, easily and comically frustrated, stuck but determined. Note: Stage combat skills a plus

DILGAN: Male, 20s, any race, equivalent to a modern-day cliché Gen Zer, sardonic at times, tender in others, appears scrawny, comically disinterested at first but finds his inner strength as the play advances. Note: Stage combat skills a plus

THE ADMINISTRATOR: Male/Female, 30s and up, any race, equivalent to a modern-day middle management boss, desires more, reluctant leader

THE AMAZING, FABULOUS AND SPECTACULAR UNTRUTHS OF JUAN GARCIA by Kathleen Culebro

Director: Evan Michael Woods

First Rehearsal: September 17, 2024

Opening: October 11, 2024

Closing: November 3, 2024

Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 8:00pm; Sundays at 2:00pm

Contract: SPT 3

The rehearsal schedule will be in the evenings on weekdays and daytime on weekends.

SYNOPSIS: Juan Garcia has got looks that kill, charm for days, but absolutely no grip on reality. Juan Garcia has returned to his hometown of Oaxaca, armed with grand tales and big dreams of becoming the city’s biggest celebrity. He weaves a tapestry of tall tales and misadventures, aiming to impress (and possibly confuse) everyone, particularly the lady of his misguided affections. But as bills pile up and tired servants reach their limit, the stage is set for a comedy of errors that even Juan can’t lie his way out of.

Don %HOWUin - (Latine or African American M, 40s to 60s) A fop who loves sweets and the luxuries he can no longer afford. He doesn’t see what he doesn’t want to see and lives his life as though wishing it will make it so.

Profesor /izaro - (Latine or African American any gender, 40s to as old as you like) Nervous, rule bound, and loyal. Would rather walk on broken glass than disappoint.

Juan *DUFta - (Latine or African American M, 20s) So charming and gregarious that no one ever makes him confront the fact he’s a compulsive liar. Like his father, he lives his life as though saying something out loud will make it true.

Lucrecia - (Latine or African American F, 20s) Intelligent, observant, and ambitious. Though she doesn’t come from aristocracy she has an unflappable elegance that makes her a powerful presence.

Jacinta - (Latine or African American F, 20s) Fearless, smart and a little mischievous. She’s somewhat torn between what she really wants and what she believes someone of her social class should want.

Isabel - (Latine or African American F, 20s to 40s) Working class. Gullible and charming with a delightful sense of humor. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.

Fernando - (Latine or African American M, 20s to 30s) Insecure, but really really working on his confidence. He has to give himself a pep talk but is able to muster up the courage to go for what he wants.

Diego - (Latine or African American M, 20s to 40s) Loyal, wise, and sees everything that no one else notices. It’s a little annoying that all these people who aren’t as smart as he is have all the power.

'Rxa Susana - (Latine or African American F, 40s to as old as you like) Elegant, practical, and manipulative. But she’s Mexican so she is all charm, and her machinations are entirely passive aggressive.
