The story of the legendary Neil Diamond comes to life on stage in an uplifting new musical featuring all his hit songs, including “Sweet Caroline,” “America,” and “Cracklin’ Rosie.” From those exhilarating early days in New York to the sold-out spectacles that defined his career, A Beautiful Noise explores the life of a rock icon through the music that made him “a national treasure” (Los Angeles Times).
Directed by Tony Award® winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), choreographed by Olivier Award winner Steven Hoggett (Once, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), and written by four-time Academy Award nominee Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Two Popes), A Beautiful Noise is a thrilling look at an artist’s search for himself and a celebration of the enduring power of his music.

Unlike many biographical jukebox musicals (that are also excellent in their own rights), including Beautiful: A Carole King Musical, On Your Feet!, and Jersey Boys, A Beautiful Noise is based more in reflection rather than a direct story. The older Neil recognizes his mistakes and regrets throughout his past, making it even more difficult for those watching to see how those events impacted his future self. In doing so, the show goes beyond the story and focuses on difficult themes like pressure, loneliness, and imbalance.

Fortunately, once you understand how those lyrics originated, the songs become extraordinary. The music is the show’s main event: a full-throated concert of hits that keeps the audience clapping and, ultimately, singing along. Director Michael Mayer wisely leans into that collective joy. For longtime fans, it’s an irresistible celebration; for newcomers, it’s difficult not to get swept up in Diamond’s melodic directness.
