Texture Contemporary Ballet is Pittsburgh's largest nonprofit contemporary ballet company, founded in 2011 by Alan Obuzor. It combines classical ballet technique with contemporary dance to make original works, and as a new-works company it has presented more than 200 original pieces by 47 different choreographers across 15 seasons, with each season featuring premieres by resident and guest choreographers. Programming includes mainstage productions, children's performances, The Nutcracker and the Texture Choreography Project. The organization also runs Texture Ballet School at 210 Valley Brook Road in McMurray, Pennsylvania, with a Children's Division, Student Division, Pre-Professional Division, boys' classes, adult open classes, performing opportunities, and summer camps, classes and intensives. It is supported by funders including The Heinz Endowments, The Pittsburgh Foundation and the Allegheny Regional Asset District.
