Dance classes in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Hill Dance Academy Theatre (HDAT) is a dance school at 2915 Webster Avenue in Pittsburgh's Hill District, home of Ju.B.Lation Spirit Filled Feet and celebrating 20 years of what it calls Black dance excellence. It offers a holistic curriculum for students aged 3 to 18 that deliberately links Black cultural traditions and history to technical training. The Dance Starts Here program introduces ages 3-6 to pre-ballet, African, Afro-Caribbean, hip-hop, Capoeira, jazz, liturgical dance, tap and theatre. From age 7 students enter the Pre-Academy track, entered by audition, and may progress to a Pre-Professional track adding pointe work.
The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) and Collage Dance Collective will present the lineup for the 34th Annual International Conference and Festival of Blacks in Dance, 'Can't Turn You Loose: A Love Letter to Black Dance.'
As part of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's (PBT) two-week collaboration with Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH), DTH dancers will instruct two master classes for students at Hill Dance Academy Theatre at 6 p.m.
