HartBeat Ensemble, Hartford's local professional theater ensemble, will raise funds for their summer Plays in the Parks by hosting a face-off between Connecticut's best improvisational troupes.

On Friday, March 5th at 7:00 PM at Cloud 9 Lounge, Free Lunch of Hartford, Purple Crayon of Yale, and Horse Lincoln of the University of Connecticut will each get twenty minutes to improvise a show based off a single audience suggestion. Sea Tea Improv, Hartford's favorite short-form group, will play light-hearted "Whose Line is it Anyway?"-style games in between the long-form groups. HartBeat Ensemble will judge each performance and choose the winner.

The performance will cost ten dollars and all funds will go directly to HartBeat Ensemble. HartBeat is currently developing this summer's Plays in the Parks series, which will be performed for free in multiple public spaces. HartBeat Ensemble is a leader in providing free theater in the neighborhoods, and this performance will showcase many other theater ensembles who are creative on a budget, and whose shows are often free to the public.

Reservations can be made by sending an email to julia.pistell@hartbeatensemble.org.

The mission of HartBeat Ensemble is to create original, professional theater based on stories from the people of our community. Through Mainstage plays, Open-Air performances, and Education programs, HartBeat Ensemble makes theater accessible beyond the barriers of class, race, and gender. Their last major production was Ebeneeza: A Hartford Holiday Carol, which traveled through four of Hartford's neighborhoods and drew in new and diverse audiences.

Sea Tea Improv is a troupe of seven players that performs both short and long-form improve. Their mission is to make high-quality, entertaining improvisation widely available in Connecticut. They were recently featured on The Colin McEnroe show on 90.5, perform monthly at City Steam Brewery Café, and have also been seen at The Fuller Movement Center, Playhouse on Park, First Night Hartford, and many more places.

Horse Lincoln is the University of Connecticut's only purely long-form group. They were last year's winners of The Connecticut Cage Match. Free Lunch has been performing together since 2008 and has been featured many times in Hole in the Wall Theater's Connecticut Cage Match. Purple Crayon is Yale's long form improvisation group.
