SILVIA COLASANTI Time’s Cruel Hand
(US Premiere)
BRUCKNER Symphony No. 7
Following years of relative indifference from peers and audiences, Anton Bruckner finally found international success with his Seventh Symphony. After a radiant first movement whose theme came to the composer in a dream, the monumental Adagio serves as a heart-rending tribute to his recently deceased idol Richard Wagner. Conductor Fabio Luisi returns to Severance to also lead the US premiere of Silvia Colasanti’s Time’s Cruel Hand, inspired by three Shakespearean sonnets and featuring the “rich, mellifluous sound” of countertenor Tim Mead.
This program’s Concert Preview lectures will be presented by James O'Leary, Frederick R. Selch Associate Professor of Musicology, Oberlin College and Conservatory
