MOZART Symphony No. 40
ALLISON LOGGINS-HULL New Work
(World Premiere; TCO co-commission)
PROKOFIEV Symphony No. 3*
The Cleveland Orchestra
Franz Welser-Möst, conductor
Mozart completed his Symphony No. 40 in a matter of weeks in 1788, though nothing in this music indicates any hurry, showcasing a work of both refined elegance and fiery passion. Music Director Franz Welser-Möst pairs this with a blazing symphony of a different sort — Prokofiev’s Third, for which the composer adapted music from his opera The Fiery Angel. Complementing these is a much-anticipated world premiere from Allison Loggins-Hull, the Orchestra’s Daniel R. Lewis Composer Fellow.
*Not performed on Friday’s matinee concert
This program’s Concert Preview lectures will be presented by Cicilia Yudha.
