Capital Repertory Theatre announced today a call for entries for plays to be considered for its upcoming NEXT ACT! New Play Summit. The theatre is accepting manuscripts of plays now through end of day on Monday, July 16.

The Bob Fitzsimmons Memorial Scholarship, this year, is being awarded to Albert Stanaj, a 2012 graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School. He has been demonstrating an interest in theatre since the age of 9. Albert would come to Stepinac with his parents to pick up his older brother who was in rehearsal for SOUTH PACIFIC. Besides running around the theatre chasing other cast members' little sisters, Albert became a student of the theatre at that time.

FOOLS has an eager young teacher, a beautiful - but dimwitted - girl, several kooky villagers, and an ancient curse. This comic fable takes the audience to Kulyenchikov, a Ukrainian town plagued by a scorned lover's curse. Leon, the unknowing hero, answers an ad requesting a teacher, only to discover that the entire town is under a 200-year-old curse of chronic stupidity. He learns that he has exactly 24 hours to break the curse or else he will become a fool himself. Faced with this dilemma, a hysterical tale of stupidity, love, and human nature unfolds in quintessential Simon style.

Michael Perlman, whose critically acclaimed NYFringe solo show, Flying on the Wing, was named Outstanding Solo Show of 2006, debuts his new ensemble play, From White Plains, produced by Fault Line Theatre at the CSV Cultural Center from tonight, May 31st through June 10th. Perlman's solo show powerfully and imaginatively dealt with the playwright's personal struggles dealing with Stickler's Syndrome and coming to terms with his sexuality.

NEA Grant Supports Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival's ROMEO AND JULIET

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Rocco Landesman announced that the NEA will award $20,000 to the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival (HVSF) to support their production of Romeo and Juliet during the 2012 season. The production which runs in repertory with Love's Labour's Lost and The 39 Steps is being directed by Associate Artistic Director Christopher V. Edwards. The 2012 season begins on Tuesday, June 12 and the first performance of Romeo and Juliet is on Wednesday, June 13 at 7pm.

The New York Philharmonic's 170th subscription season will conclude with Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, leading the Orchestra in an all- Mozart program: the Mass in C minor, Great, and Piano Concerto No. 22, featuring Emanuel Ax - Honorary Member of the Philharmonic-Symphony Society of New York - as soloist, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 22 at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 23 at 8:00 p.m. The C-minor Mass will feature performances by soprano Jennifer Zetlan (making her New York Philharmonic debut), mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano, tenor Paul Appleby (also making his Philharmonic debut), baritone Joshua Hopkins, and the New York Choral Artists, directed by Joseph Flummerfelt. Ms. Zetlan, Ms. Johnson Cano, Mr. Appleby, and Mr. Hopkins will join Alan Gilbert and the Philharmonic to perform the C-minor Mass at the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival July 27.
