Daniele Rustioni, 35, Principal Conductor of the Opera National de Lyon, will make his American orchestral conducting debut with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, January 31-February 2, 2019. Rustioni will lead the orchestra in performances of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3, Respighi's Fontane di Roma, and Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1 with soloist Julian Steckel. Later in the season, Rustioni will conduct a new production of Tchaikovsky's rarely-performed The Enchantress for Opera National de Lyon, make his debut at the Teatro Real Madrid with Verdi's Falstaff, lead the Orchestra della Toscana in a three-city tour of Italy, and return to conduct the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. Angelson Theater, named for its most devoted supporter and long-standing board chair, and the John Doyle Artistic Director's Circle donor doors, on Wednesday, January 23 at 5:30pm. The installation was designed by Tony Award winner David Rockwell and the ceremony will take place prior to the evening's performance of Conor McPherson's new version of August Strindberg's The Dance of Death, helmed by Tony Award winner Victoria Clark (part of CSC's Strindberg repertory engagement with director Shariffa Ali's production of Yael Farber's Mies Julie, running through March 10 at 136 East 13th Street). Barter Youth Academy is a performance-based educational program that allows students of all ages the chance to learn and develop their performance and storytelling skills. Using the acting and rehearsing techniques of the Barter Resident Acting Company, students work through the theatre experience from the audition to the final performance onstage in front of a live audience. Dramatists Guild Foundation (DGF) has announced the second-ever recipients of the DGF Writers Alliance Grants. These Grants provide $5,000 to both a non-profit theater's production of a new work and $5,000 to the writer or group of writers whose work is being produced. Gary Garrison, who serves on both the DGF Advisory Board and the Writers Alliance Grant selection committee, said: "The DGF's Writers Alliance Grant is the perfect combination of support for both writer AND theater. It acknowledges that the writer has a story that should to be told while also smartly pointing to the theater that should be telling it." (more...)
