RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Author Bertha Barraza together with co-authors Miranda Angeles, Alex Cuatok and Monique Salgado have a diverse background as well as a wide understanding of what community college experiences are for students. Their collective background and experiences led them in writing "The ABC'S to starting at a California Community College" (published by Xlibris).

This student handbook serves as a guide for students on the process of enrolling in college. It includes 50 illustrations, helpful words, application questions, links to videos and important websites. It is divided into four sections, namely from the application to the first day of class, information regarding the cost, budget and resources for money, information on making a counseling appointment more effective and tips on asking counselors questions about student rights and responsibilities.

"There is no other guide for California Community Colleges available for students," the authors say. "California Community Colleges (CCC) are the leading engines, which produce job skills for the workforce in California; but, many students do not understand the process of how to get started at a CCC. This handbook is a great resource to prepare students before they arrive to college." Unfortunately, most students who apply to community colleges learn the process for the first time when they arrive to college and few know about the resources available to them. This handbook serves as a resource, guide, and a tool to prepare in advance for community college."

An easy to read book, "The ABC'S to starting at a California Community College" hopes to help students in California community colleges enroll and attend college well prepared in order to meet their goals.
