Boston Children's Theatre Finishes Its Season With A Timely Classic

Boston Children's Theatre finishes off its 2017-2018 season with George Orwell's 1984. Literature on stage has been the theme for BCT's productions this past year. BCT opened its season with the New England premiere of Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium, then brought The Velveteen Rabbit to life during the holidays. Now Boston Children's Theatre's pre-professional training program for teens, New England Theatreworks, is presenting Orwell's classic. Ironically, this classic appears to be as timely as ever.
THE CAPITOL STEPS Return To Northampton

Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra Debut Honors National Poetry Month In Concert

Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra (CCCO), the region's newest professional orchestra, announces its debut concert Here at the Edge of the Sea, on Sunday, April 15, 3 pm, at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 533 Main Street, Rt. 28, Harwich Port, conducted by Music Director Matthew Scinto. The performance features a collaboration with Cape Cod Writers Center, honoring National Poetry Month. Featuring poetry-inspired music, the program includes Cape poet Judith Askew's "Here at the Edge of the Sea" set to original music by noted Boston composer-conductor Francis Snyder. In addition, poetry authored by students from Harwich's Monomoy Regional High School will be on display in the church sanctuary.

According to AMERICAN THEATRE magazine, Dominique Morisseau's SKELETON CREW is the third most-widely produced play of the 2017-2018 season at regional theaters nationwide. Huntington Theatre Company stages the timely final chapter of the playwright's Detroit trilogy, a powerful drama about the hardships suffered in the Motor City after the 2008 economic recession. Directed with care and great attention to detail by Megan Sandberg-Zakian, the family of workers at an auto plant try to stand their ground against the inevitable while maintaining their dignity and their connections to one another. Outstanding performances by Patricia R. Floyd, Jonathan Louis Dent, Toccarra Cash, and Maurice Emmanuel Parent.

Now in his fourth season as Music Director, Andris Nelsons leads the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in three concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage over three consecutive evenings in April. The concerts kick off with a celebration of the Leonard Bernstein centenary on Wednesday, April 11 at 8:00 p.m. with Bernstein's Symphony No. 2, "The Age of Anxiety," featuring pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the BSO's 2017-2018 Artist-in-Residence. The work is paired with Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4 in C Minor.

Boston Latin School senior Xiadi Zhai was named Massachusetts's 2018 Poetry Out Loud (POL) Champion Sunday at Boston's Old South Meeting House. She bested 23 other finalists to earn the top honor. First runner-up was Helen Rahman, a senior from Masconomet Regional High School, and second runner-up was Tori Milun, a sophomore from Norwell High School.
Provincetown CabaretFest 2018 Features Slate Of 28 Performers

The soulful songs and glamorous nightlife of the 1950s will swing once more when CabaretFest returns to Provincetown May 31 to June 3. Twenty-eight cabaret entertainers from Boston, New York City, Florida and Palm Springs, will participate in ten live shows, a Q&A luncheon panel session, two performance workshops, two Marilyn Maye Master Classes, and enjoy parties and networking along with VIP pass holders. The VIP pass includes entry to all the live shows, opportunities to monitor workshops and invitations to private parties. Boch Center Announces New Folk & Americana Music Series

The Boch Center, one of the nation's leading nonprofit performing arts institutions, today announced the launch of a new Folk & Americana Music Series to celebrate the genre's rich musical history and influence. The series seeks to spotlight iconic and emerging artists and introduce new audiences to the genre. The Folk & Americana Music Series will include regular concerts with Woodstock-based artists The Weight Band and rotating special guests-giving each concert its own unique experience. It will also include solo performances with notable touring artists.
