I like Jackman okay without grasping the rabid Broadway obsession with him (part of me worries it's because he's the rare really masculine man playing musical theater leads), but he seems as wrong for Harold Hill as anything.  One, he's too imposing physically for someone who's really a wordsmith. Now I think  he would make a very good (if not vocally completely apt) Billy Bigelow. I think he could probably play any of the roles that John Raitt originated. He might, in his youth, have made a great Tony or Riff, depending on his dance skills (and what sort of choreography might be employed). I wonder if he'd make a good George (as in Sunday in the Park with). Possibly a Sweeney Todd (easily an Anthony in his youth)? I just can't see him as Hill.

They changed them to a random date without checking with you? Had you already received a receipt or something showing the Dec. date? Weird.

They rescheduled mine from October 25, 2020 to May 21, 2021. There was no notice, I had to log in to see it.

Of course it had to go from the week of my birthday to my brother’s birthday 😂.

I had mine rescheduled (4 seats together) from 10/16 to 05/21/21. Crazy!

How sweet of them to ask if everyone is available for those new dates!

Sutton, I’m actually glad they’re doing it this way. And like with the other shows doing this, you‘ll most certainly be able to get a refund or switch the date if it doesn’t work for you.

Checked mine and they changed from Dec. 10 to July 8. Same exact seats and day of week, but I generally prefer traveling during cooler months, so I may have to look into switching them. Good sleuthing!

Sutton Ross said: "They could cast someone else and just make the tickets cheaper. I would not mind that in the slightest. It seems that this show was scheduled between huge projects of his, and rescheduling seems like a nightmare."

I will bet a lot of people will not feel the same way.  I saw an excellent production of MM about two years ago, with Noah Racey as Harold Hill.  Racey was really excellent technically, but had IMO zero charisma.  I  remember leaving the theatre saying to my wife, who tends to dislike / be underwhelmed by a number of  great musicals from the 50s and early 60s that I doubt she will ever need to see it again, since it was pretty clear to me that without a really charismatic Harold Hill, there would be not point.

Well, when they announced that HJ was going to be in a revival of MM, she insisted that I get tickets right away, because she had become such a fan of his purely on the basis of the arena show that we saw last year.  This from a person who doesn't really like MM.

I think there are huge number of ticket purchasers who feel the same way.  If HJ was replaced by someone with less charisma and / or talent, even at lower prices, I suspect that demand would shrink dramatically.

As far as I'm concerned, the show would be wonderful with either Gavin Cteel or James Snyder as Harold Hill.

Jarethan, oh I know I'm in the tiny minority with my opinion, the ticket prices are just so outrageous due to his casting. I was seeing it for Sutton Foster specifically because she's the best anyways. I'm curious if he will have an alternate.

I highly doubt he’ll have an alternate because that would have been announced when tickets went on sale so people knew what they were buying.

I appreciate your comments. But Hugh has always surprised people even in his film choices. One example is how he moved from Les Miserables to Prisoners ( from a saintly person to a ravaging father)...then from Logan to Greatest Showman ( an aging Wolverine to a showbiz impresario)...now he has stumped people with his topnotch portrayal of a dishonest man under the veneer of a beloved educator in Bad Education. If the Ferrari project happens, he is going to portray a man known for his ambition and temperament but confronted by tragedy ( on track and in his family).

It's called range ...and to add to that, Jackman has charisma either before the camera or on stage.

Re having the impression of manliness -- director James Mangold( Logan/others) has once said that Hugh has this  " incredible masculinity"  - which could work to a disadvantage when he looks at roles that are not typical of his film persona. But what is interesting is that he takes on many different roles and usually comes out pleasing critics and audiences. Btw, Patrick Stewart once suggested to Hugh that they do a revival of Sweeney Todd together- he will play Judge Turpin and Hugh will be Sweeney. He's actually only an Oscar short ( he did get a nomination for Les Miserables) towards an EGOT.

I have two sets of tickets, for October and November, and it looks like they were moved to May...and August?

This show will not play in Spring 2021.  Certainly not to full houses.  If you can get your money back now, I'd do it.  Singing is the best way to spread coronavirus.  I don't expect Broadway theaters to be open until Fall 2022.  Honestly.

Makes sense!

Telecharge is supposed to have rebooked seats side by side, as early as April. It is likely that when Phase 4 for NY opens, there may still be physical distancing requirements.

And what about the risks to performers and crew?

"

Governor Cuomo had a press conference today and released updated guidelines for Phase 4 reopening.  They are allowing "low risk indoor arts & entertainment" to open with certain criteria as well as Media Production outlines as well.  I would think that any promotional work such as photo shoots, marketing etc may fall under the Media guidelines as well as the decision of Broadway League and Actor's Equity.  The current guidelines for those categories for New York's Phase 4 can be found here: https://forward.ny.gov/phase-four-industries

I just received this email:

Despite the current suspension of performances on Broadway, we are delighted to be able to confirm our new schedule for the highly anticipated production of Hugh Jackman in THE MUSIC MAN

The show will begin previews at the Winter Garden Theatre on April 7, 2021, with an official opening on May 20, 2021

Since you are already a ticketholder for this strictly limited engagement, your booking has been automatically transferred to a new performance. Although your performance date has changed, your seat locations are exactly the same.

New Performance Date: May 1, 2021
New Performance Time: 8:00PM

If for any reason you cannot attend THE MUSIC MAN on the date above and need to exchange to a different performance, go to your Telecharge Order Status page (on a desktop computer or tablet).

Click the “Exchange” button and follow the steps to select another performance and new seat locations. Your exchange will be completed after you have selected new seat locations. All exchanges must be made by July 23, 2020.

We are enormously excited about Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster in THE MUSIC MAN, and about inviting you back to Broadway. We hope that, in the meantime, you continue to stay safe and healthy.

We look forward to seeing you at the Winter Garden.

Thank you,
Telecharge Customer Service

They changed my date to June 9, 2021. That is way to far in advance for me and I don't even know what's going to happen at that time so I requested a refund. If anyone goes into the link where it says to change the date, you can ask for a refund of your tickets. I hope to get it soon.

They moved us from the Friday night of Thanksgiving weekend to the same seats for a random Friday in June.

We changed that to Memorial Day weekend (fingers crossed) and we got moved a few rows closer and more towards the middle for the same price
