The View will be on summer hiatus until September 2020.
And yes, Whoopi just spoke about this on The View and stated they will be making adjustments to the show to accommodate her limitations (physical, etc).
You know what I say... good for her! Go and have fun, live your dreams! Who cares about your age. I’m sure vocally it’ll be a mess, and they’ll accommodate and cut as needed. but people won’t care cause it’s Whoopi!

Now that Motown's come, gone, and is more or less done, maybe this is the chance to jettison some of the Menken score (sorry Alan!) and give Whoopi songs from the movie that are already known to fit a comfortable range for her?

Well, I caved and ended up buying a ticket. It's selling decently.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
The entire run is almost sold out. Good for Whoopi for being able to sell out an entire run in less than a day. I got my tickets for August and even though I’m lukewarm on this musical as a whole, this is going to be a thrill.

The View usually goes on hiatus last week of July or first week of August, through Labor Day, so I'm sure she'll only miss the last few weeks of the season.

I’m here for it."
And it's not like it'd be hard:
* Bump "Take Me to Heaven" (opening number for Deloris and the girls at the club) for "The Lounge Medley"
* Bump its reprise for "Hail Holy Queen"
* Drop "Sunday Morning Fever" (opening number of Act II) for "My Guy (My God)"
* Kill "Spread the Love Around" (closing number of Act II) for "I Will Follow Him (Chariot)"
(And I could maybe see dropping both instances of "Raise Your Voice" for "Shout," but that one's always been popular.)
It's a simple matter of four (or five) songs, it's not like all of Menken's work would get the ax. Yes, the rest of it sounds more "Philly soul" than "Detroit steel," but it's not like it's hard to push Motown toward a disco sound, as Dreamgirls proved with "One Night Only" and Diana Ross proved with the diana album. Besides, since Whoopi's performance -- per her initial statement -- seems to be pushing the character back toward the initial conception from the Pasadena production (where Dawnn Lewis played Deloris as an older character with different stakes), it might fit to have Deloris' favorite music be a slight step out of touch with the times.
WOW - I am very curious as to how this will play out... I'm guessing they have all ready changed the show to suit Whoopi when she slips in for the the five weeks. I can't imagine them starting the tour with a version, changing it for Whoopi then reverting back to the previous version. I like the idea of having an older Delores, kind of adds a few layers to the character - but Whoopie is in her mid 60's! and prices are now reflective of bway prices - YIKES!

A menace? Really? How so? I can see why people mighty be concerned about her ability to perform the show as originally produced, but I’d hardly call her a “menace to society.” That term belongs to a certain orange ogre in the White House. I’d love to see her back on Broadway in a one woman show like her successful 1984 debut.
Does anyone think there's a chance this could come to NY for a short run? I'd love to see it, but I'll be in Europe a few months before and won't be able to get back to see this.

Today on THE VIEW she said it was for seven weeks. She also acknowledged she’s much older, and hinted the show would address that somehow. She didn’t mention a Broadway run in the future.
