I'm surprised they didn't use the original logo from Day 1 to have brand synergy. And it's a testament to the quality and iconography of the "lightning bolt letters" that Scholastic designed 20+ years ago when nobody knew what this could become. I don't think it's a bad change.

Anything Potter/Fantastic Beasts-related has been branded as "J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World," so the possessory credit is probably related to that. Also, I have to wonder if there was some bitterness with the Tonys: Rowling and Tiffany were not deemed eligible for their writing/story contributions to Cursed Child on Broadway. (Rowling still won as a producer, but not as an author; I believe all 3 won the Olivier for Best Play.) By using the possessory credit, that could help her be awards-eligible in Australia or around the country. Seemingly insignificant, but it's the type of things agents fuss over for high-profile clients.

I actually like the new Playbill...

Interesting that Playbill does not show the new cover on their site, a Google search of the new marquee shows nothing new, and, the Harry Potter Cursed Child website is all still the original logo.

Walked by on my way into work this morning and they’re doing work on the marquee.

They also removed "Parts 1 and 2" from the marquee, although the playbills are still denoted "part 1" and "part 2" in small font on the bottom.  I personally loved the old playbills and the fact that when you put the part 1 playbill next to the part 2 playbill it showed the entire set of wings.  That was a nice touch, I thought, too bad they lost that.  Can anyone get a close look at the Harry Potter face on the new playbill - is it Jamie Parker?  He originated the role so that's my guess, although current theater-goers may have no idea who he is (still thinking Daniel Radcliff's is the face of Harry Potter).

They probably have been asked to hold it. Apparently an announcement is coming (which is why no theatre site has reported it, even though a new marquee is generally worth of news).

As a huge (like, really, really big) Harry Potter fan, I always liked that the play didn't took the easy way out and instead created a brand new identity, new Hogwarts house designs, a new logo, everything new. I mean, it's Harry Potter, they don't need brand synergy or whatever. Also, the Cursed Child logo always seemed like something out of a classic, you know? The new just looks like a bit of a knock-off of the movies.

(And that new Playbill is hideous, absolutely awful. Jeez the old one would work just fine with the new logo, but I guess Warner Bros. had to *completely* ruin it. I also don't like how it says "J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" in some places)

Mary Poppins also had a logo change as well just before the Broadway production opened as the original London production was this:

Not surprised by the changes and actually like the concept of the new Playbill. The logo is just a rebranding strategy which ends up being a rebrand to the previous brand. Not bad, but I liked the difference in the original font/logo. But again, not surprised as this was basically hinted to when HPCC had their booth at Comic Con and the cover art for the new coffee table book has the same classic Scholastic logo.

Mugglenet is doing a great job compiling the recent happenings with WB and CC.

Probably means we'll get an unnecessary movie as well if WB is getting really involved. Frankly, this show belongs on stage. I loved the Cursed Child but I can't see it working super well as a movie. Anything with the Potter theme and music and characters will at least get my attention, but please, keep this on stage. Just have it do long runs all across the country honestly.

I have seen recently too that Universal Orlando is expanding their resort and basically doubling in size, I wonder if they could potentially have a set Cursed Child production down there? Since Potter/WB and UOR have a fabulous theme park relationship, rumor of new Fantastic Beasts lands in the parks, the new Hagrid ride, idk, I could easily see this. I think it'd be smart for both companies.

I just wonder, if WB really wants to change it to the original logo I assume they're going to try and incorporate this show into the Potterverse more, maybe in many ways?

I like the stylized font on the exterior of the Lyric Theatre, just wish it was a little brighter in color. Much prefer the older Showbills, the new ones are just fugly...

There are definitely conflicting sources saying a movie will or will not happen. No matter what, Radcliffe & Co are all going to have to appear to be old enough to have 15 year old children - that is not going to happen anytime soon.

Of course I also agree this will not work on film at all, and I’m sure they’ll bring in a screenwriter to fully rework the script.

Perhaps a movie is in the works (although I, too, think that's a mistake and this is meant to be seen on a stage), but I highly doubt the article's "sources" are correct when they say Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint have agreed to come back.  All 3 have really distanced themselves from Harry Potter since the movie wrapped so I would be shocked if they all agreed to go back into those exact same roles for another 2 movies.

I'm far from thrilled about this, I actually kind of liked how you could sort of consider this separate from the rest of the universe. We'll have consider it true canon now...I do inexplicably love the show, but we should be able to admit the canon is questionable at best. That being said, a film was always inevitable. But now that it's official that WB owns it, yeah it's gonna happen eventually. And funny enough a FB friend posted an article about a film, but it doesn't have any sources, nor have any trades reported so I doubt it has any salt, but a film really is inevitable at this point. And while I understand the trio's want/need to distance themselves from HP, I honestly think there'd be blood if they didn't do their roles again. Stage is one thing, but on film, the majority of the world knows these characters with these actors. Remember when it was a viable possibility that Emma wasn't going to do the last two or three films? I'm not saying she's the greatest actress, but I never took issue with her Hermione.

I’m sure Warner Bros would be ecstatic to finally have a hit broadway show on their hands. Lol.
I wonder if they would ever consider filming the stage show for their streaming service...

All I can say is, the frozen butter beer at the Universal theme parks is the stuff of miracles. Best tasting stuff theme park food I had when I lived in Orlando— I still crave it!

I wonder if there’s a good copy cat recipe...

It was only a matter of time before WB took the rights to Cursed Child. I'm sad that it no longer has as much of its own identity. I hope they don't make gradual changes to the production itself, because the sets and all the merchandise still have its original house artwork and other styles.

I bet the addition of 'J.K. Rowling's' to the title was a compromise to give her some authorship while Warner applied its own branding. That would explain her unexpected tweet too, so it didn't seem too much like a corporate land grab.

Pottermore (Wizarding's World official news outlet) confirmed that there are news coming tonight but it's NOT a movie.

Anyone at the Lyric? Apparently there is lots of press invited

For those craving Butterbeer but who don't want to go through the hassle of making your own, I have found The Flying Cauldron's Butterscotch Beer to taste very much like what  they sell at Universal.  They sell it at Book-a-Million.

Sources at the show have reported that at the end of Part 1, Umbridge instructed the audience to go to Times Square and "look up". Should be happening now - hoping for a dark mark LED screen takeover?

EDIT: As I predicted, it's all a ploy for their new marketing campaign:

So I was just looking through stories on IG and the Broadway productions page just posted about 15 minutes ago on their story that some of the cast is heading to Times Square after their performance of Part 1 tonight and that "very important news is coming up." ????

The change may also have something to do with the fact that the SF production begins next month.
