What a great season for plays again!!! Thought this was dead in the water after Steppenwolf, happy that this has been resurrected and will land on a Broadway next spring! The Inheritance, Virginia Woolf, Take Me Out, Tea At Five, and possibly The Lehman Trilogy!

glad to see its happening. Rudin wanted to replace the Steppenwolf cast and Letts refused so Rudin walked, will be interesting to see who is still in the show, also when was the last time a living playwright got produced twice in one season on Broadway? (remember he alkso has Linda Vista happening in the fall)

Is this once again in Limbo?
No recent news/updates that I've seen.

I’m guessing this takes The Golden, The Cort, or The Lyceum...

Catch me running to The Cort to get my ticket as a TGIF/treat yourself/you just got two jobs present tomorrow. What an incredible cast! And I didn't get to see Armie Hammer the last time he was on Broadway so I'm super excited about this!

I didn't see the show in Chicago but am excited to see Tracy Letts, Armie Hammer, and Jessie Mueller will be in this Bway production!

Lett's is going to star in it?! I thought he said he wasn't interested in acting in something he's written. The rest of the cast sounds fantastic too. This is going to be an unmissable event.

What a cast! I saw the play at Steppenwolf and it’s a trip. I actually expect mixed reviews for the play itself, but the performances will be stellar. It’s a true ensemble piece, and I’m thrilled to see some of that cast here. Letts will be haunting in what I assume will be the role of the mayor. Barford and Chamberlain’s reprised performances will be standouts. (Barford could conceivably be a two-time nominee come awards season). I assume Jessie Mueller is playing the secretary, which is a fairly small but memorable role. Should be a fun night of theater!

Kinda sad that a couple of the Chicago actors got replaced with bigger names (I'm assuming the ones that are Steppenwolf ensemble members, like Petersen, Anderson, and Meredith were offered the transfer but turned it down). That's showbiz, I guess.

Since you've seen the play, is there something (review, synopsis, etc.) that you could recommend reading to give a better idea of what the play is about while avoiding spoilers?

FISH IN THE DARK is the only show to recoup at the Cort since FENCES in 2010 (though a few others have come close).

This cast is nice for avid theatre fans, but nobody in it is selling tickets to the masses. That's the bigger issue than the location (and balcony) of the Cort Theatre.

The Cort actually has one of the more decent balconies on Broadway, in my opinion.

And yep, aside from Armie Hammer most of these names won’t sell tickets to anyone outside of the theater community.

I don't think this NPR review/writeup is very spoilerish.

That’s a great feature. Here also is the program from the Steppenwolf production.

https://issuu.com/steppenwolftheatre/docs/theminutesprogram

And here is Chris Jones’s review in the TRIBUNE, though it contains some minor plot.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/theater/ct-ent-minutes-steppenwolf-review-1121-story.html?outputType=amp

In short, the play is set in real-time at a city council meeting where questions of truth, transparency, and tradition are raised.

I mean, his play last season sold abysmally (Straight White Men), and it was on the heels of the most acclaimed performance of his career.

Straight White Men had lots of negative buzz though. Letts is a Pulitzer Prize winner with a lot more acclaim to his name, so Hammer is in a better vehicle from the beginning this time.
