Sound of Music with Sutton? Jul 25

My first thought was, “She’d be awesome, but maybe a bit too old.” Then I did some research and found out that Mary Martin was 46 when the show opened on Broadway. I guess Julie Andrews doing it at 30 put it in my (and several subsequent casting directors’) minds that Maria was usually younger.

If Horace is indeed the talented but not-famous Broadway actorwho was mentioned on here a few months ago, I'm not sure why they're waiting to announce? Maybe one of the other principal roles is still open or someone dropped out?"

I saw the tour in March, and Lee is a fine Phantom. He brings a youthfulness to the role, acts it well, and sings nicely, if a bit weak in vocal power and assertiveness. I did find his performance, and the production as a whole, though, to be lacking overall in passion and urgency, if that makes sense. It seemed like most folks onstage were phoning their performances in. Still immensely talented, obviously, but I didn't feel that there were stakes onstage. I will offer the cavea
It looks like it’s sold very well to subscribers and groups, unless some seats have been held back. I looked at every Saturday matinee, and almost the entire orchestra is already sold!
Broadway Barks/Harry Potter Jun 28

Lauren, others might know more about particular Potter schedules than I do, but, just to remind/let you know, Broadway Barks is a one-day pet adoption event that takes place IN the theatre district. Most of the participants literally just stand on a stage holding a pet and may say a few words about it. Most actors currently in a show make their appearances between the matinee and evening performances of their Broadway shows. In other words, Broadway Barks shouldn’t be a reason for an actor to be

Agree to disagree. I found this production overly preachy and uneven. It didn’t make sense in the contemporary setting.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child cast changes Jun 21

This probably doesn’t mean much, but the souvenir program is stamped with “2018-2019 Edition,” which suggests to me that a new edition will come out with a new cast in 2019. I know the London production seems to create a new program with each new cast. Again, not a confirmation but perhaps a small hint that they’re on yearlong contracts. I know Ms. Dumezweni has said in an interview that she’s doing it for a year.

Wow, sounds like tour houses have gone lax on enforcement, or there’s miscommunication somewhere. This hasn’t always been the case. I’m pretty sure I’ve experienced all three methods at TPAC over the years. Really interesting. Granted that that the average theatregoer won’t care, but these actors deserve better, especially in a case like LND, when the listed Phantom isn’t even with the company anymore.
How disappointing. They’re doing mostly weeklong stops, so going non-union seems unusual, no?

njfl, thanks. I go to TPAC a few times a year. I saw Waitress there a few weeks ago, and there was an understudy on for a principal (Becky), and it was only the understudy board that showed the change (no slip or preshow announcement).
Same with when I saw the Phantom tour in March in South Bend. There were understudies for Christine and Raoul, and it was only the cast board that gave the change.
Hopefully these were just flukes, because I know most folks don’t study the cast b

For those who’ve seen it recently, have they been giving understudy slips? I’m seeing it in Nashville and like to keep track of who I see. I’d really like to not have to resort to underlining my program.
Is the equity rule still not that there has to be two of the three of notice on the cast board, program insert, and preshow announcement when standbys and understudies are on? I’ve only seen it on the cast board the past two national tours I’ve seen.

Cortes is still listed as the main Phantom in the program for this week’s Nashville stop. Murphy said on social media that he’s doing 6 of the 8 shows this week, though, so I assume they haven’t changed the billing that they give each house.

Kinky Boots doesn’t appeal to me, and I’m still bitter that it beat Matilda. Also never saw Chicago. I’ll get to the Ambassador one day.

I hate to start another thread, but perhaps this could become a place for news and speculation. According to the last part of this Daily Mail article (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5846501/amp/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-Samantha-Barkss-smart-Pretty-Woman.html) on Samantha Barks, there are plans to open Cursed Child productions in major US cities for two to three years at the time. I know Chris Jones has speculated that it could revitalize Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre, but that seemed speculati

Sounds like we’re of a similar size! He will most likely be fine in an aisle seat, especially if it’s in the orchestra. Transfer seats might also be an option, given what
I’m an overweight guy as well, and aisle seats are the best! I always buy one when I can choose my own seat.
As far as which theaters are best, I’ve never felt like I was crowding my neighbor in any Shubert house. I’ve been in the Shubert, the Broadway, the Broadhurst, the Barrymore, the Imperial, the Music Box, the Winter Garden, and the Jacobs. I sat in the orchestra in all of these houses, except the Broadway, when I was in the front mezzanine. Though I’v

I highly doubt this would happen unless Metcalf wanted it to, but I selfishly want her to return to Steppenwolf in the spring and star in their production of DH part 2!
