Did Patti LuPone get the memo that there would be more than one joke about her last night?

That’s the link to Joe Iconis’ tweet from a few minutes ago. Seems to clear a lot up. He praises the parody’s lyrics but also mentions that he really wishes that it was mentioned which show it was from, and now he’s rallying for people to spread the word about it.

If Joe is OK with it, then that should be the end of the story.

All the attention this show is getting today is really gonna boost their sales when the 12 year olds get their allowances on Friday.

What specifically about Tepper?  I am genuinely interested.

It was funny, but this kind of cutesy interruption only shaves time off the acceptance speeches of way too many winners.

Well, if they weren't mad over something, is it really the Be More Chill crowd? If it was written "originally composed by Joe Iconis" they would mad he didn't win, and if he did they would be mad they were only nominated once, and if they weren't they would complain about the lack of a performance and so on.

This ^^^. People are so pissed about this imagine if people got this made that in 2017 they joked about how Andy Karl tore his ACL in Groundhog Day. Yes, not everyone understood the joke but if you explained it it would ruin the whole thing.

Sorry, James! Too little too late! You, Josh, Sara and Neil should have walked over to Joe and kissed him on the ass and lifted him to heaven while then singing Amazing Grace while the audience rose to their feet showering him with roses and Tony Awards for allowing them the honor of singing the song they did.

Yeah, that's not how this works.

Had they not done this specific segment, they would just have done some other musical/comedy/skit/number. They would not have included the awards that were given out before the broadcast, no matter what.

Holy overreaction on behalf of....everyone. If Be More Chill wanted publicity, they should have booked a spot on the show or ran a commercial.

Honestly it would’ve taken maybe two seconds of air time to credit the show. They could’ve even done it before the commercial saying something like “up next a new take on Michael in the Bathroom from Be More Chill”.

It’s not a huge deal they didn’t credit them but it’s annoying because it could’ve been done so easily.

Apparently producers tried to pay for a performance and Tony producers shot them down saying they didn't have time for it in the broadcast. Regarding a commercial, only Best Musical/Revival/Play nominees are allowed to purchase commercial spots. I know this sounds dumb, but its true, or at least it used to be. Laura Bell Bundy commented on this issue, during her media for the MTV airing of Legally Blonde. She said that producers knew they wouldn't be allowed to perform, but were shot down they they even tried to buy a commercial. She then went on to say the MTV airing was/will probably be a lot better for promotion then a 30 second ad on the Tonys, but she specifically stated on nominated Best Musicals/Plays/Revivals are allowed to purchase ads. I am guessing this is has extended to any previous nominees as well, since the only musicals I saw ads for were Frozen, and Dear Evan Hansen.

This is categorically false. Moulin Rouge and Disney shows ran commercials last night. Book of Mormon runs one every year as well.

EDIT: The Wing has nothing to do with the commercial break content as it's sold by the stations/network.

If you all think BMC fans are annoying, try being on the Beetlejuice fan group on Facebook. Holy crap.
I’m a big fan of the show, but after this week, I left the group. Manic obsession doesn’t even begin to explain the majority of people in that group. And it got horribly aggressive when the show didn’t win a Tony.

Does anyone else think this was just a giant, desperate publicity stunt cooked up by the show?

No, especially since there is a ton of different, conflicting information today about it. I just think they should have mentioned the show last night, instead of doing it today (Corden and Lin-Manuel Miranda) when nobody cares.

You know, I never thought of that until you mentioned it, and I can completely and 100% get behind it. It was a surge of social media that got the show to Broadway, so why not now.
