Is Elsie Fest no more?  Jul 27 2018, 06:42:03 PM
I’m going out on a limb to say Darren Criss probably doesn’t care about the theater world now that he’s seen real TV money.

Just a hunch.

NY Times Journalist's "Body Shaming" in 'Smokey Joe's Cafe' Revew  Jul 23 2018, 04:08:46 PM
I don’t think it is body shaming, but I do think it is crappy writing and poor critiquing. It’s passive aggressive bullying as well.

Naming the costume designer instead of the actress in that sentence is one way to start.

It also points at another huge issue - costume designers who cannot design for fat people either because they don’t want to or they haven’t had experience from a lack of fat people on stage.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: The Musical  Jul 3 2018, 08:03:43 AM
Love the Denee suggestion for Andy - it would be perfect.

My out of the box (and slightly young) thought for Miranda would be Jenn Colella. It’s a different role for her, but I’d love to see see what she could do with it - and she could pull off just about anything.

I also think Cynthia Erivo and Idina Menzel could be good Mirandas if they do skew younger.

NY Daily News: Ruthie Ann Miles Injured, Daughter Killed By Driver in Brooklyn  May 17 2018, 10:49:53 AM

Truly awful. Unthinkable. There are moments that the words don't reach.

I do hope they can find some solace in their faith and hold each other close throughout this.

Is it time for a mass exodus from Broadway World?  May 10 2018, 10:04:10 PM

To get this thread back to the original topic - this kind of stuff is exactly why I’m tired of not only this board, but of society in general.

I go to theater so I don’t have to think about what is going on - that our president is a rapist and a criminal. That politicians want to take my rights away. For three hours, i could focus on artistry and beauty on stage. .

And for a while, I could get that here as well. I could argue about whether or not Idina was ac

Is it time for a mass exodus from Broadway World?  May 10 2018, 08:16:08 PM
So now there have been two threads where someone has not only made people on this board uncomfortable but who has gone out of their way to bring it up because the old thread was locked.

Racism is racism is racism. And “hearing them out so you know where they stand” isn’t the answer. When you give even one a platform, it allows others to see they are not alone.

The censorship with Patti Muringate lost us some of the best and now the refusal to delete posts with microagressions...this place is not what it was.

Agent complains: Minorities are 'putting talented white performers out of work ... and it stinks'  May 10 2018, 03:32:35 PM
I read this post a while ago and let it marinate for a bit in my mind.

I cannot BELIEVE that a website like this would even think of allowing a thread like this, a thread filled with BLATANT racism and gaslighting, whole threads about silly Broadway drama like a Spongebob stagedooring stalker or Patti Murin’s sensitivity are deleted.

As a person of color, as a woman of color, as a human being, I am appalled and frankly if this is the type of environment BroadwayWorld and the m

I think it’s hilarious how those who don’t like TBV are labeled as “stupid,” or “shallow,” or “you just didn’t get it!”

I got it even though I had a very long blink toward the latter half. It’s not that hard to “get.” Art is subjective and just because someone doesn’t agree with you on something subjective, that doesn’t make them wrong.

Yet Great Comet walked away with nearly no awards last year, and instead the award went to the most cookie cutter musical of the year?

What would have made Frozen Better  May 8 2018, 07:01:38 AM
A different cast, a better director, and someone willing to tell Disney they need some edge.

I think Caissie is a massive talent but both Elsa and Anna read so old on that stage - especially Patti, who reads at least 5 years older than Caissie.

Reflecting on Alex Newell not getting the Tony nom  May 7 2018, 08:46:10 AM
If the award was for “Best performance of a song by a featured actor” he’d win. However, to compare what he does to what Grey Henson or Gavin Lee does every night (singing, acting, dancing, reacting etc) - it becomes clear why he wasn’t nominated. He’s present for maybe 5 minutes and then he seems almost bored and definitely thinks to highly of himself. Compared to Lea, who acts from the tips of her toes to the top of her head in every moment, it is abysmal.

Some of the other nominees a

Official 2018 TONY Nominations Thread  May 1 2018, 08:51:54 AM

Honestly, this is warming me up to Leslie Odom Jr. as a person - I always knew he was insanely talented, but he's SO warm and funny this morning.

2018 Drama Desk Nominations & Awards  Apr 26 2018, 11:31:12 AM

My guess here is that Cursed Child focused only on getting tickets to Tony voters and not to every voter for every award there is - it's not like they need any awards.

2018 Drama League Nominations & Awards  Apr 18 2018, 12:20:36 PM

Ethan Slater not getting a nomination confuses me quite a bit - physically, the role is a feat. Vocally, while doing the physical, it is as well.

IMO, Denise Gough and Ethan Slater not being nominated but Patti Murin getting nominated is a blight on these awards.

Musicals with Lesbian Character lead  Apr 11 2018, 09:15:26 PM

Valentina3 said: "Is Hedwig trans? I don't they ever explicitly identify whether Hedwig wanted to actually transition or just did it for the visa"

JCM has said Hedwig is gender fluid, not explicitly trans.

Chicago, if you count it, and The Wild Party have lesbian characters.
