Tootsie - Storyline Question Jun 10

This is a really interesting idea! I think the plot overall would have been more realistic this way because they would see ~Michael’s~ demands to change the script as confidence and intelligence or something. I think every woman in the audience upon seeing Michael get more respect as Dorothy was like..... seems fake but okay.

I saw it this weekend and LOVED IT. I don’t think Longacre is a good theatre choice at all though...

Ranked: Ain’t Too Proud- AMAZING. Definetly sold a lot of tickets for the show Choir Boy- I really liked it and it was original Oklahoma- not sure why people are hating on this. Ali Stroker tore down the house and I liked the dark energy it had The Prom- simply delightful. I love the transition between the two songs Hadestown- they chose the wrong song. Featuring the one non-nominated actor doesn’t make sense to me and the camera can’t capture what Wait For Me really is

This ^^^. People are so pissed about this imagine if people got this made that in 2017 they joked about how Andy Karl tore his ACL in Groundhog Day. Yes, not everyone understood the joke but if you explained it it would ruin the whole thing.

But they could have payed to have a spot. Why would they let George perform for free when all the other shows have to pay? Plus they parody shows all the time. The parody was itself a shout-out imo.

Tony Night Suprises May 19

Kiss Me Kate taking best revival is the most likely I believe. The Prom taking best book. Damon or Brooks taking Lead Actor in a musical. Hadestown winning costumes. Constitution winning best play. The biggest surprise would be if Be More Chill Stan’s don’t try to fight Hadestown for winning best score
Tootsie- worst musical of the year May 19

Tootsie is like my experience with Dear Evan Hansen in that I liked it at first but the more I listened and thought about it the more I began to dislike it. It’s not the worst because Pretty Woman exists, but I really do not understand the love for it. Sarah Stiles deserves her own show though, and a tony for a better written role
Jokes In Musicals That...Just Don't Work? May 19

Might be controversial but in Tootsie: “I’m a man in love! Pass me my bra!” Fell sooooo flat it sounds like a joke that would be made on Disney channel or by a third grade boy. For a show that had some great one-liners there were a couple that just made me roll my eyes.

I read this book in high school and I’m struggling to remember the plot but I know I enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone who gave in depth reviews!

Funniest shows on right now are Book of Mormon and The Prom. Just saw a local production of a play called Native Gardens that was very funny

Hadestown town does not have a message. Its not a thinkers piece, its a basic retelling of the original myth. Its also not serious theater, and that the problem I have with it. It
Kiss Me Kate! or King Kong May 11

I know what youre thinking do you have to chose between those two?, and no not really but Im going to be taking my mom to her first Broadway show at the end of June and I cant decide. Hadestown is my first choice but we arent positive what day yet and most of the somewhat reasonably priced tickets are almost sold out. So if they do sell out I need a backup plan. My sister has seen Come From Away, Waitress, Frozen, Mean Girls and Hamilton and she doesnt like rewatching shows so those are out. Out
The Prom, Tootsie or Burn This? May 10

I haven’t seen Burn This but I really preferred The Prom to Tootsie. You’ll be able to get good rush tickets for The Prom Too!

A lot of the women I had been thinking were mentioned! Here are my thoughts: Bonnie Milligan or Aisha Jackson as Catherine of Aragon Ashley Park or Ali Stoker as Anne Boleyn Denee Benton or Christy Altomare as Jane Seymour Taylor Iman Jones or Hailey Kilgore as Anna of Cleves Stephanie Styles or Taylor Louderman as Katherine Howard Shoba Narayan or Barrett Doss as Catherine Parr
