I'd be more interested to know how the understudies are in the role~~~~

I have  seen Midler, Murphy, Peters and  loving each and everyone of them.

Buckley for my tastes Buckley really sunk the show with her miscasting

... I wonder how the understudies faired???

for the record since some of you are counting how many times she calls out - she was out again last night (Friday 2/8)  The exchange line was very long- it's very frustrating and disappointing when people buy tickets for a show and the 'star' is out.  But I also feel like half the people in the audience probably don't know who Beatty even is...and the U/S was spot on and has amazing pipes!  She sang some of those songs better then I've ever heard them- just doesn't have a star name.  You can tell the slight difference in energy with a 'nonstar' but I think that's also due to the energy of the audience as well.  I'm babbling, my point is, the U/S last night was great!

Well I just read on Jeffrey Selfs page that she is out again today.  I do hope she feels better soon.  I wish the Pantages would email patrons before hand with their options.  It costs time and money to get into hollywood.  Parking is usually $18.00.  And most people go to dinner first.  With all the information they gather on us when buying tickets; you would think a simple computerized email alert could go out as a courtesy.

We saw the show on 2/8 when Ms. Buckley was out and Jessica Sheridan was on as the understudy.  I thought she was very good.  Her vocals were strong and she brought a warmth to the role.  I didn't feel like she completely commanded the stage and had the audience wrapped around her finger as I have heard some Dollies have - but I think that is a tall order for an understudy.  The audience was very responsive to her and loved her.

I would love to see Jessica Sheridan take over the role for the next leg. The three times i saw the show on broadway she really got my attention in the ensemble. I think she has a great stage presence and would love to see her dolly!

Nope .  And she is still out.  I hate that I’m obsessed with this now .

She was on last night and was brilliant.  See my Facebook page for more, but she sounded great, was funny, charming, warm, touching and vibrant.  And Lewis Stadlen is the best Horace ever, perfectly played.  And the Minnie and Irene are quirky and great.

I hated Lewis Stadlen .  Made me really miss DHP.  Betty seemed really tired to me .  She really lost steam during So Long Dearie.    I’m glad she was s back and I’m glad you enjoyed it.

It was unprofessional that she was blowing her nose? Performers literally do this all of the time when they’re under the weather in a spot where it isn’t super noticeable.

People bitch when she’s out, people bitch when she’s in.

People have filled a whole thread with more than 100 posts about how she has been out sick for too many performances, and now you come in complaining that she was sick and didn’t miss the performance? Can’t win for losing...

Saw the show 9th Feb , Buckley was outstanding, in great voice , was a joy to see her perform this.

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Hello all,

As we have said in the past, discussing a performer's attendance is completely acceptable on the board, as it certainly serves the purpose of informing other theatregoers of important information. Obviously that will elicit a myriad of feelings from different people, and that is fine as well.

Where the problems come is when people without published or verifiable information start making statements as that the performer is purposely using health (mental or physical) as an excuse to be paid and skip performances when they could otherwise go on. In our opinion, that crosses the line to being a personal attack in questioning the person's honesty, integrity, and commitment.

While people have certainly had a wide range of emotions about Betty Buckley's attendance in this thread (and we have pruned the comments that we felt crossed the line), the majority have been acceptable, even if they are harsh.

However, there very well might be occasions where we accidentally overlook something, either because we missed something in the context of the discussion, or we just screwed up a judgement call. In those situations -- as always -- we invite you to use the reporting options to bring up the post to our entire team of admin and moderators.

In those circumstances, we will be able to give the post a more thorough review with as many eyes as possible. I hope this helped answer questions for you.

I must have missed the harsh stuff. But I am glad your pruning as opposed to deleting the discussion.

I didn't see Hyde Pierce so I cannot compare.  I did, however, see David Burns, Horace McMahon, Cab Calloway, and Richard Deacon, as well as all the Channing tour Horaces, and Stadlen was as good or better than any of them, IMO.  But that's what makes horse racing.  Betty not only did not seem tired, she had incredible energy and joy from her entrance to her curtain call.  She was just great and I did enjoy it thoroughly.

How about instead of telling Betty what to do just go and enjoy the show.

Instead of putting older stars out to pasture let’s work around their needs.

I saw Chita Sunday in London and she was amazing I am honoroed to have seen her.

If people keep bitching we may never get to see these people if they don’t do 8 shows a week.

Support the performers and fan the show.

Not sure what this rant has to do with anything .  Who is telling Betty what to do?  And what is wrong with disappointment being expressed when someone you paid to see isn’t performing?

Excellent post, Gizmo6.  Sums up my feelings, as well.  Thank you!
