The world premiere production of Robin Hood: Occupy Sherwood - the tale of the original caped crusader and his band of 'merry men' sticking it to the one-percenters is coming to the JBK Theatre at Frederick Community College (7932 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick) from August 10th through the 18th. The show is produced as part of Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) annual summer outreach program in partnership with The Ensemble School, Frederick Community College and Hood College. Written by local talent Sarah Shulman and directed by Julie Herber, Robin Hood: Occupy Sherwood presents a new take on the classic legend that will entertain the whole family.

Featured will be Protest, by Adam Meyer, A Good Brain is Hard to Find, by Rebecca Wyrick, and Replay, by Mark Scharf, all directed by Lynn Morton.

The final entry in the Baltimore Playwrights Festival's Thirty-First Season, The Last shall be First, by Percy Thomas, opens on August 10th. Produced by Heralds of Hope Theater in Residence at Sojourner-Douglass College (www.heraldsofhopetheater.com), 410-997-5779, and directed by the playwright, performances of The Last shall be First will take place Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 3:00 p.m., at Sojourner Douglas College Theater, 200 N. Central Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21202, through September 2nd.

Round House Theater Presents BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO, Beginning 9/5

Round House Theatre launches its 2012/13 season with the regional premiere of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo by Rajiv Joseph, which runs from September 5 - 30. Jeremy Skidmore directs this 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist, which the Los Angeles Times called, "the most original play about the Iraq war." Opening night is Monday, September 10, 2012.

Everyman Theatre's 22nd season opener, Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies, is one of the final two shows that will be produced at Everyman's Charles Street home this Fall. In January, 2013, Everyman Theatre will be making an historic move to its brand new theatre located downtown on Fayette Street. Critically acclaimed in New York, Time Stands Still was nominated for a Tony for Best Play in 2010. Everyman Theatre's production marks its Baltimore premiere.

Marking the 25th anniversary of the John Waters' original film, Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly brings together an all-star cast of Broadway, film and TV stars for the full symphonic production of the Broadway musical, Hairspray. Hairspray: In Concert! will premiere with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Jan. 11-13, 2013, and with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Jan. 24-27, 2013.

This season will also include a new production of Maryland Ensemble's first show, an original work that MET premiered more than 15 years ago.

Applications for the 2013 Rising Star Performing Artist Professional Development Award are now available for download by visiting the "Celebration of the Arts" page at www.hocoarts.org. Applications may also be requested from the Arts Council by phone at 410-313-2787 or via email at info@hocoarts.org. The early no-fee application deadline is October 1, 2012. Applications submitted between October 2 and the final deadline of November 1 must be accompanied by a $10 application fee.

The Howard County Arts Council is seeking nominations for the 2012 Howie Awards honoring individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the arts in Howard County. The 2012 Howie Awards will be presented at the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County on March 23, 2013, where members of the arts, education, government and business communities of Howard County will gather. Nomination forms are available online at the Arts Council's website, www.hocoarts.org. Nominations must be postmarked, emailed or faxed no later than November 1, 2012.
