Strand Theater Company has announced the inaugural show of its 2012 -13 season, Mother, May I by Dylan Brody.

This Stanley Drama Award-winning "sad comedy dives into the screamingly funny and raw-nerve-painful dynamic of a modern American family. Everybody keeps secrets from one another except for the narcissistic and deeply repressed mother, who keeps secrets only from herself—while blithely revealing them to anyone who will listen. Sexuality, finances, and self-esteem are all fair game when the Grunmans get together. Thomas Wolfe was wrong: it’s not that you can’t go home again, it’s that it’s so hard not to. Dylan Brody’s work has been compared to that of Garrison Keillor, David Sedaris, and Woody Allen."

Strand Artistic Director Rain Pryor, who will direct the production, is a long-time friend of Brody. “Mr. Brody is one of the finest satirist minds I know”, says Pryor. “I am honored to have been asked to direct the World Premiere of his play, and excited for Baltimore to meet and hear a genius.” Mother, May I will preview on Thursday, September 20th, officially open the following night, and run through October 12th.

The cast will feature Valerie Lash as Ellen Grunman, Larry Levinson as Paul Grunman, Jon Kevin Lazarus as Daniel Grunman, Jessica Felice as Franny Grunman, and Caroline C Kiebach as Sarah Cannerly. The production team will include Stage Manager -Christina Cordle, Scenic Designer - Ryan Haase, Lighting Designer - Todd Mion, Graphic Designer - Seth Luzier, and Production Photographer - Ken Stanek.
