BSO Launches New Orchestra Fellows Program

In keeping with the broader vision of inclusivity and relevance within the community that has characterized the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) under Music Director Marin Alsop, the BSO announces a new pilot Orchestra Fellows Program. The BSO's Orchestra Fellows program is conducted in partnership with Sphinx, the non-profit organization that seeks to overcome the cultural stereotype of classical music and promote diversity in the arts. The Orchestra Fellowship is intended as a year-round mentorship program for talented young musicians of color. Tami Lee Hughes, a violinist and Baton Rouge, La. native, has been appointed the Orchestra Fellow for the program's inaugural 2012-13 season.

'Arturo Ui" is Adolf Hitler and, to Bertolt Brecht, that is really the point. His satirical drama, "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" is a thinly veiled chronicle of the rise of Hitler and his inner-circle cohorts (Rohm, Goring and Goebbels) to power in Nazi Germany. Academic Theatre students at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex will perform this play at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, tonight, Oct. 25-27, 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29 and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the B Building Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd. in Rosedale.

Silver Spring Stage presents These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich, directed by Bob Benn and produced by Seth Ghitelman, the powerful true story of the strength and determination of women working in a 1920's clock factory exposed to toxic chemicals. Theirs is an inspirational story of survival and courage to save other workers from harm. These Shining Lives will perform weekends October 26 to November 17.

Way Off Broadway Hosts THE CAMPAIGN CAPER, 10/24-25

In addition Way Off Broadway's regularly scheduled Mainstage and Children's Theatre seasons, the theatre also hosts a number of special events each year. Some of the most popular events at the Frederick theatre are Way Off Broadway's interactive murder mysteries where the audience gets involved and helps to solve the case at hand. In recent years, the mysteries have been set to the backdrop of a competitive cooking show, a drag night club, and a talent contest, much like American Idol. Way Off Broadway and Justin M. Kiska, the author of the theatre's interactive mysteries, are adding a new case to their crime files this year with The Campaign Caper, which will have performances tonight, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th.
