New Musical MARLEY Breaks Box Office Records in Baltimore

The World Premiere production of Marley, a new musical with music and lyrics by Bob Marley, and written and directed by Center Stage Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah, became the highest grossing single ticket show and the highest attended show in the 52-year history of Baltimore's Center Stage.

The 2015 Audrey Herman Celebration opens the 54th season (2015/2016) of Spotlighters Theatre. At the event The Audrey Herman Award for support of the arts & theatre will be presented to Dr. Maravene S. Loeschke, former president of Towson University for her work in expanding arts & theatre across Baltimore!  The Spotlighters Award will be presented to Alan Zemla for his volunteer efforts at the theatre.
John Waters Politely Declines Maryland Theatre Ensemble's 'LAST HURRAH' Invitation

Local comedy show The Last Hurrah recently released a video in an attempt to bring filmmaker/author John Waters to Frederick. Without the help of bookers and inspired by John Water's recent book, Carsick, the crew of The Last Hurrah made an attempt to hitchhike to John Waters. And while no one in Frederick was willing to give them a ride, the video made its way to John Waters.

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's METLab Festival of New Work Set for Next Month

Maryland Ensemble Theatre is proud to announce the creation of a festival of new works in this summer's METLab. The festival will feature a "Plays in Progress" series that will include a full production and staged readings at various levels of development including a chance to see the same work at different stages. The festival will also feature free "Coffee House Readings" staged in a relaxed atmosphere with live music, wine and of course java.  All plays are by Maryland natives.  MET Artistic Director Tad Janes is enthusiastic about sharing these original works with MET audiences. "METLab was created because the passion for new voices had started spilling over. Our ensemble was ready to create a play development festival that served the needs of the playwright. We aim to give voice to new playwrights and give local artists a space to be heard."

The modern day 'Aladdin' adaptation by MET company member Caitlyn Joy will be directed by fellow company member Lia Seltzer. Full of fun and memorable characters the show will feature catchy original music by local composer and Urbana high school student Connor Cochran. Center Stage Launches Playwrights Collective
