By: Tyler Peterson Sep. 16, 2015
METLab is a sub-organization of the Maryland Ensemble Theatre dedicated to the development of new and original work from local playwrights and performance artists. METLab is dedicated to cultivating audience outreach, community discussion, and new play development in Frederick, MD. MET aims to build on the success of the inaugural METLab festival that took place in June of 2015.
The Plays in Progress Festival is a two-week long event showcasing new work from playwrights local to the Mid-Atlantic region. MET will be accepting entries for its Staged Reading Series and Coffee House Reading Series. Submissions will be accepted through September 30, 2015. The Festival's showcase will be July 17 through 30, 2016. The Staged Reading Series gives three script winners the opportunity to workshop their writing with a professional director, dramaturg, cast and crew. Following the workshop, writers will have a staged reading open to the public where they will hear feedback and reactions to their piece. There will then be a second staged reading for the audience to observe any changes made to the original work. This is a great opportunity for any writers looking for experience with a live audience in the world of theater. Accepted works for the Coffee House Reading Series, will experience a free one-night stage reading opportunity. Led by a director, scripts will be allowed one practice read before read in front of an audience allowing writers to hear their words play out verbally through professional actors.Videos
