Ground Floor Theatre Announces Cast For Lisa B. Thompson's SINGLE BLACK FEMALE

Ground Floor Theatre (GFT) announces the cast for Single Black Female by Lisa B. Thompson kicking off the 2020 season and running February 13-29, 2020 at Ground Floor Theatre, 979 Springdale Rd. Directed by Matrex Kilgore this dramatic comedy will star Michelle Alexander and Valoneecia Tolbert in multiple roles.

George and Charlotte Hay are fading theatre stars in the 1950s. Currently, they are playing a?oePrivate Livesa?? and a?oeCyrano De Bergeraca?? in rep in Buffalo, New York, with five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George's dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might have one last shot at stardom. The famous Hollywood director, Frank Capra, is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his next movie.

The Wittliff Collections, an internationally acclaimed collection of Southwest writing, photography, film and music, announces a limited availability of a?oeDate-Nighta?? tables-for-two for their inaugural Festival, taking place April 18, 2020. Just in time for Valentine's Day, these intimate Date-Night Tables are priced at $1,000 and include gala seating for two at ACL Live at the Moody Theater, access to two full bars and a buffet dinner on the mezzanine level, a chance to bid on silent and live auction items, and a great view of the program, which will include an acoustic performance by Robert Earl Keen and Ray Benson. Do you remember your American history class? I know I do, I loved history. We were told that George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were men of outstanding quality who believed that 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.a?? What we weren't told was that while writing these words, Thomas Jefferson owned over 600 African-American slaves. In addition, Jefferson had an enslaved mistress, Sally Hemings, with whom he fathered 6 children, who were in turn enslaved. Eleanor Burgess's play THE NICETIES takes on this type of historical discrepancy head on.

Austin Shakespeare presents Ibsen's acclaimed masterwork, Hedda, in a new adaptation by Artistic Director Ann Ciccolella. Set in 1950, this new production is inspired by Betty Friedan's book, The Feminine Mystique. Hedda explores the intriguing story of an extraordinary woman trapped in a conventional life of secrets and lies that ignite a personal explosion. In exploring Ibsen's alluring Hedda Gabler, we discover that even today, many contemporary women live in circumstances not so far away as we had hoped from the trap in which Hedda finds herself.

Creator, writer and original director Randy Johnson joins Mary Bridget Davies with original choreographer Patti Wilcox and original associate director Tyler Rhodes.
