S.T.A.R. Council Students Get Ready For 2018 Shuler Awards

ArtsBridge Foundation, producers of the Shuler Awards, is bustling with activity as they prepare for the 10th Anniversary of the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards. 75 high schools across the state enrolled in this year's program. From those schools, 32 students have been selected to be part of the prestigious S.T.A.R. Council. These students have worked hard behind-the-scenes at their school's theatrical productions, and they will serve as Production Assistants during the Shuler Awards. Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) will air the awards show live on its nine-station statewide network from the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, April 19.

Alliance Theatre Announces Upcoming Production TWO ONE-ACT PLAYS BY PEARL CLEAGE

The Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce its upcoming production TWO ONE-ACT PLAYS BY PEARL CLEAGE, featuring Hospice and Pointing at the Moon, performed back-to-back.  Pearl Cleage is a beloved Atlanta author and playwright, perhaps best known for her novel What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day, an Oprah Book Club selection, and her play Blues for an Alabama Sky.  Hospice was first performed in 1983 and was honored with five AUDELCO Awards for achievement Off Broadway; Pointing at the Moon is a world premiere.  Performances are March 23 - April 15, 2018, at the Southwest Arts Center while the Alliance Theatre undergoes a complete renovation.  Opening night is Thursday, March 29.

Atlanta's Synchronicity Theatre will produce the rolling premiere of Jennifer Barclay's new play, Ripe Frenzy. The winner of the 2016 NNPN Smith Prize for Political Theatre, Ripe Frenzy tells the story of a mass shooting in a small American town. Told from multiple points of view, and through the lens of Thornton Wilder's classic play, Our Town, Barclay examines all sides of a tragedy that has ruptured the spirit a once idyllic community. Performances run from April 13 to May 6, 2018.

Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta will offer a special $30 Student Rush Ticket for the Atlanta engagement of A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder, playing at The Fox Theatre March 13-18. Students simply need to bring valid college student identification with them to the Fox Theatre Box Office two hours prior to each performance. The Student Rush Ticket price will be valid for all performances with a two-ticket limit per student ID.
