The Punch Brothers will kick off a 28-city U.S. tour on May 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Mayo Performing Arts Center. Tickets are priced from $53 to $85.

Formed in 2006, the quintet features mandolinist Chris Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny, and violinist Brittany Haas. The group has received critical acclaim for its approach to acoustic music, including a Grammy Award for Best Folk Album for All Ashore in 2018, with The Washington Post noting the band’s ability to take “bluegrass to its next evolutionary stage, drawing equal inspiration from the brain and the heart.”

Punch Brothers has released a series of albums that highlight its genre-defying sound, including Antifogmatic (2010), Who’s Feeling Young Now (2012), and The Phosphorescent Blues (2015). Rolling Stone described the group’s work as “wild virtuosity used for more than just virtuosity.” Their most recent album, Hell on Church Street (2021), reimagines Tony Rice’s Church Street Blues, featuring songs by artists including Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, and Bill Monroe.

Most recently, the band has launched The Energy Curfew Music Hour, a musical variety show available as a podcast, with its first season released widely and a second season available through Audible.

Mayo Performing Arts Center is a nonprofit organization that presents a range of programming across Northern New Jersey. The Morristown performance will mark the opening of the group’s national tour.
