Centenary Stage Company Seeks Interns for 2026 NEXTstage Repertory Summer Season
Paid positions at Hackettstown's Centenary University include housing, stipend, and hands-on training.
Centenary Stage Company has announced applications are now open for its 2026 NEXTstage Repertory Summer Season Internship Program, offering paid opportunities to graduating high school seniors from FREDDY Awards participating schools. The eight-week program will begin June 15, 2026, and includes housing and a stipend.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Internships are available in three focus areas: Technical Theatre, Arts Administration/Performance, and Production/Stage Management. Participants will work alongside resident staff and guest artists in a professional setting, gaining hands-on experience across production, administration, and performance.
Students focused on technical theatre and stage management will assist designers and crew within production shops and on summer productions. Those in arts administration and performance will work in administrative offices and may audition for roles in the summer season, though casting is not guaranteed.
APPLICATION AND AUDITIONS
Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, and a letter of recommendation from a drama teacher or theater professional. Performance-focused candidates are required to audition.
Auditions will be held April 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Dance Studio of the Lackland Performing Arts Center on the campus of Centenary University in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Video submissions will be accepted for those unable to attend in person.
2026 SUMMER SEASON
The NEXTstage Repertory 2026 Summer Season will include THE WEDDING SINGER, running July 9–19, and CLOSER THAN EVER, running July 30–August 9.
THE WEDDING SINGER, based on the film starring Adam Sandler, features music by Matthew Sklar, book by Chad Beguelin and Tim Herlihy, and lyrics by Beguelin. The musical follows Robbie Hart, a wedding singer navigating heartbreak and new love in 1980s New Jersey.
CLOSER THAN EVER, by Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire, is a song cycle exploring themes of love, aging, and everyday life through a series of character-driven musical numbers.
