Photo Flash: Lighthouse Guild's Music School Performed in Annual Perform-a-Thon

Music and dance students of all ages from Lighthouse Guild's Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School performed in its annual perform-a-thon on Dec. 9 and 14th. The two-day event included dance and musical performances of a variety of styles. Funds raised will help keep tuition costs affordable for students who are visually impaired.

Day one of the Perform-a-thon, Leap into Music, included performances by the children's dance ensembles, youth chorus and vocal ensemble, plus instrumental soloists. The National Dance Institute Center for Learning & the Arts was host for this event.

Lighthouse Guild's Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School was the location for Banquet of the Bands on day two of the Perform-a-thon with performances from the adult pop/rock bands and vocal/instrumental solos.

Children enrolled in the music school's Comprehensive Music Program for Young People (CMPYP) are provided with a curriculum that is a foundation for establishing essential music skills. Classes include Braille music, music theory, accessible music technology, music appreciation, dance, and individual instrumental lessons.

Adults enroll for individual lessons, with instruction available in voice, piano, guitar, recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, vibraphone and percussion.

Performance Ensembles consist of up to 30 students who rehearse together weekly. Youth ensembles include chorus, and a small vocal ensemble. Adult ensembles include a 25-member Vocal Ensemble, two pop/rock ensembles and a young adult rock group.

All programs at Lighthouse Guild's Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School are made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Councils. The Music School is a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education.
