ABOUT THE PROJECT
Valerie Hird is creating the Genesis Project in NYC because it is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. The first version of The Genesis Tree, (exhibited at Gallery 51 in Massachusetts and Art Prize in Michigan) celebrated the variety of life created by the endless interconnection of four natural elements - earth, air, water and fire. This NYC version will be made up of over three thousand, hand-folded paper forms and will push the metaphor to a new level by inviting all communities, ages, and ethnicities to recycle their old glossy-print magazines representing the full diversity of language, locality and color into a much larger tree-form that will connect us all.
After New York, Genesis will expand to different cities, countries and cultures promoting the idea of a functioning whole made up of many parts. Find out about participation here: COMING SOON!
