How Broadway is Using Augmented Reality to Get People to the Theater

Adweek has reported that Broadway is successfully drawing more and more people back to the theatre, thanks to the use of augmented reality, or, AR.

In December 2021, The Broadway League partnered with the data activation arm of Ericsson, Emodo, to launch the Holiday Show Globe, an AR campaign that ran for three weeks in December. People would use their phones to scan subway posters, billboards and via links on social platforms, and they were transported to a snowy, 360-degree Times Square, featuring current Broadway shows and holiday greetings from Broadway's biggest stars, such as Patti LuPone and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The Broadway League revealed that 90% of people who saw the ads went on to interact with the AR experience, generating over 750 hours of interaction.
