Off-Broadway's Side Show to Include Cut Song

Henry Krieger and Bill Russell's Side Show, to be presented at Off-Broadway's American Theatre of Actors from August 31 to September 3, will feature a cut song entitled "She's Gone."  The song was removed during previews of the Broadway production in order to shorten the performance time.  Side Show is dramatically based upon real-life vaudeville entertainers and conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton.

"In the original Broadway production, which premiered in 1997, the song was a final moment for Violet Hilton at the end of Act Two.  It was decided to reinstate the song into this new production in order to give each of the twins a moment to display their arrival as independent women.   This production of Side Show will be the first in Manhattan since the Broadway premiere," state press materials.

Side Show features Carey McCray and Jordan Kai Burnett as Daisy and Violet Hilton.  "The musical follows these unique sisters from their humble beginnings among the 'freaks' of the sideshow to their rise of fame in the Vaudeville circuit and eventually Hollywood. Along the way they face challenges of love, identity, discrimination, and isolation."  Dane Agostinis, Joshua Isaacs, Kevin Bradley, Jr., and Nathan Brisby also star.

Side Show's original production in 1997 played less than 100 performances on Broadway despite critical receptiveness.  This production will be produced and directed by Ryan Mekenian.  The creative team consists of Billy Griffin (choreographer), Mike Pettry (musical director), Andy Yanni (set design), David Mendizabal (costume design), and Dan Scully (lighting design).

Side Show will run August 31, September 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. and September 2 and 3 at 2 p.m. at Off-Broadway's American Theatre of Actors – 314 W. 54th Street (between Eighth and Ninth Avenues) in Manhattan.  Tickets are priced at $18 for general admission and $15 for student tickets.
