The romantic and richly textured tale of East versus West, THE KING AND I, is now playing at The Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, IL., where it opened on October 29, and will run through January 4, 2015. Nick Bowling (Juno and The Normal Heart at Timeline Theatre) makes his Marriott Theatre directorial debut with a fresh take on this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, merging history and romance with today's social and political issues. THE KING AND I takes audiences on an uplifting journey of the power of education as characters transform from instructor to students themselves, learning from one another in the process. In consultation with the Thai Cultural and Fine Arts Institute of Chicago, Bowling and Choreographer Tommy Rapley will explore ancient Siamese customs, dance and traditions, and bring them to life on stage. On Sunday, November 9, Wiesenthal, the new play about the legendary Simon Wiesenthal will mark the 76th Anniversary of Kristallnacht with a special post-show candlelight remembrance. Immediately following the matinee, special guest Tovah Feldshuh (Golda's Balcony, Irena's Vow) will join Wiesenthal's playwright and star, Tom Dugan, in a conversation and candle lighting ceremony with audience members reflecting on the historic 'Night of Broken Glass.' Between, a new 10-minute play, will have its world premiere performance on Monday, November 3 at NeueHouse at an event celebrating the launch of the forthcoming book, What If… ?: The Architecture and Design of David Rockwell. If you are reading this review, you probably loved last week's two-hour AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW premiere as much as I did, but while last week thrived on a sensory assault of spectacular images and fascinating character portrayals, tonight's episode found inventive ways to not only deliver those incredible aesthetics again, but to also set up what has all the makings of an incredibly compelling season of stories. Simply said, this was one of the finest hours of television writing I have seen in a long time. (more...)

Animus Theatre Company is pleased to announce that acclaimed film, television and stage star Alexis Bledel has joined the lineup for Leslye Headland's Sin Cycle Plays (Assistance; Bachelorette; Cinephilia; Reverb; Surfer Girl; and The Accidental Blonde), their 2014 Reading Festival series in association with Circle in the Square Professional Workshop, on Monday, November 17, at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre. It's the early 1980s and an unidentified disease is killing off an oddly specific group of people: gay men, mainly in New York City. Students in the Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Theatre Program present the Larry Kramer drama 'The Normal Heart' at MCCC's Studio Theatre Friday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. The Studio Theatre is located adjacent to Kelsey Theatre on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
