LORDE's platinum-selling breakthrough single 'Royals' is making history yet again. The song just reached #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart, and the 16-year-old New Zealand phenomenon is the youngest artist to top the chart since 1987. 'Royals' recently set a new record for "Longest #1 at Alternative Radio by a Female Artist" with a staggering seven weeks at the top.
Upon learning the news, she exclusively told Billboard, "It feels like a combination of my birthday, Christmas and washing my hair after a month of not doing so. [I'm] very, very grateful for everyone's love and kind words."
Currently, LORDE is ruling over multiple charts. 'Royals' has held the #1 spot at Alternative and AAA radio for seven consecutive weeks, and it has become the #1 greatest gainer at Rhythmic and Hot AC formats. 'Royals' also soared to #1 on the iTunes Overall Top Songs Chart as well as #1 on the Alternative Songs Chart. The follow-up single 'Team' is currently the #1 most added record at Alternative radio, and has climbed to #8 on the Alternative Songs Chart. This adds up to an accumulated audience of over 146 million people.
This news arrives in tandem with the release of her full-length debut, Pure Heroine [Lava/Republic Records], in stores now. Once the album became available, it landed at #1 on the Amazon MP3 Chart and #3 on the Album Chart. At iTunes, it ascended to #1 on the Overall Top Albums Chart, while eight other album tracks float up the Top 100 Alternative Singles chart.
LORDE's reign has just begun. This week, she's been making the rounds with a bevy of high-profile television appearances. She performed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America and is set to perform on Ellen on October 9. She's also sold out numerous shows across the United States on her inaugural headline tour.
In addition, VEVO, the world's leading all-premium music video and entertainment platform, has officially elected LORDE as its latest LIFT artist. As part of the initiative, viewers may enter the her world via exclusive music video premieres, interviews, and behind-the-scenes vignettes on a dedicated page across VEVO's apps and web platform. LORDE's LIFT program kicks off in the US and UK today, making her the first-ever international selection by VEVO.
Placing the teen in league with Adele, The Civil Wars, Regina Spektor, and other leaders, VH1 has dubbed LORDE their "You Oughta Know" artist for September. It's a prestigious honor, heralding her arrival stateside as a trend-setter.
As soon as it was released, 'Royals' stirred up a frenzy online. It reached the coveted #1 spot on Hype Machine, and it has racked up over 35.5 million YouTube/VEVO views.
Last year, she took New Zealand by storm when her self-released, The Love Club EP, rose to #1 on the country's top albums chart.
