Welcome to the first entry of our revitalized Broadway watch guide, which now includes theatrical releases! For this list, we are opening up the stage doors and taking a look at the most noteworthy things that theater fans should be paying attention to, whether at home or at your local cinema.
To mark the arrival of spring, there are plenty of new things for Broadway fans to watch, from highly anticipated originals to returning favorites. Kicking off the month is American Classic, an ode to the power of theater led by Academy and three-time Tony Award winner Kevin Kline.
Fans of horror can head to the movies for The Bride!, a new punk rock take on the Bride of Frankenstein. Fresh off her success in Hamnet (which arrives on streaming this month), Jessie Buckley plays the title role, alongside Christian Bale. The movie also reportedly features some singing and dancing from its leading stars, including Jake Gyllenhaal.
Also streaming this month is Wicked: For Good, which comes to Peacock on March 20, alongside a sing-along edition and an exclusive new director's commentary from Jon M. Chu. Peacock users can trace the history and the impact of Dorothy Gale in the documentary It's Dorothy!, featuring interviews with Amber Ruffin, Nichelle Lewis, Danielle Hope, and Gregory Maguire, among others. The recording of Jeff Ross' Broadway show Take a Banana for the Ride will debut on Netflix.
As for music, March will see the release of the official Broadway cast recording of the musical comedy Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), starring Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts (A Bronx Tale, King Kong). Other notable music releases include new recordings from Georgia Stitt, featuring an array of Broadway performers, and Liz Callaway's live album of Stephen Schwartz tunes.

What to Watch This Month
American Classic (New Episodes Available Sundays on MGM+)
Broadway fans are in for a treat with American Classic, a new series set in a small-town family theater. Featuring an all-star cast led by Kevin Kline, the series follows a prominent Broadway star who takes it upon himself to revitalize his childhood theater by staging an ambitious production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town, directed by and starring himself.
With lots of references to the world of theater, American Classic also stars Tony Award-winners Len Cariou and Jane Alexander, Tony Shalhoub, Aaron Tveit, and Stephen Spinella, along with Tony nominee Jessica Hecht, Joseph Morales, and more. The show is created by director Michael Hoffman and Tony Award-winning writer Bob Martin.
Blue Moon (Now Available on Netflix)
Ahead of the Oscars on March 15, revisit Richard Linklater's portrait of Broadway lyricist Lorenz Hart, featuring a nominated performance by Ethan Hawke as Hart and a nominated screenplay by Robert Kaplow.
The movie takes place at Sardi's during the opening night of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! in 1943, and follows Hart as he confronts his shattered self-confidence as his usual collaborator, Richard Rodgers, begins a new partnership with Oscar Hammerstein. Directed by Richard Linklater, Blue Moon the cast also includes Andrew Scott as Rodgers, along with Margaret Qualley and Bobby Cannavale.
Vladimir (Streaming on Netflix on March 5)
From theater artist and playwright Julia May Jonas comes Vladimir, the screen adaptation of her bestselling novel. Stage and screen star Rachel Weisz plays the unnamed protagonist, a college professor whose world begins to unravel after she finds herself fixated on her new colleague, Vladimir.
White Lotus star Leo Woodall plays the title role, serving as the source of Weisz's lust and obsession. The cast also includes Broadway alum John Slattery as Weisz's husband John, along with Ellen Robertson, Jessica Henwick, Matt Walsh, Kayli Carter, Tony Award-winner Miriam Silverman, Mallori Johnson, Tattiawna Jones, and Louise Lambert. All eight episodes will debut on Netflix on March 5, 2025.
Hamnet (Streaming on Peacock on March 6)
Hamnet, Chloé Zhao's acclaimed film about William and Agnes Shakespeare, will be available to stream exclusively on Peacock beginning March 6. The movie is led by Jessie Buckley, in her Golden Globe and BAFTA Award-winning role, alongside Paul Mescal as the famed playwright.
Hamnet won two Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture Drama and Best Actress Drama, and was also nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Actress in a Leading Role, Adapted Screenplay, and more.
The Bride! (Coming to Theaters on March 6)
Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! is a punk rock take on the Bride of Frankenstein, with Olivier and Golden Globe-winning performer Jessie Buckley in the title role. The film follows her and "Frank," a lonely Frankenstein-like figure (Christian Bale), as they navigate their new life of romance and crime.
The movie features several big-scale song-and-dance numbers, including some from Tony Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal. He plays in-universe movie star Ronnie Reed, with Bale's character an obsessed fan who also participates in some dance numbers with Buckley. The film also stars Tony and Oscar-nominee Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard and Oscar-winner Penélope Cruz. It hits the big screen on March 6.
It’s Dorothy! (Coming to Peacock on March 13)
With Wicked firmly in the cultural zeitgeist, The Wizard of Oz isn't far from anybody's mind. Over the years, L. Frank Baum's story has been reimagined countless times, and this new documentary takes a look at the central character of Dorothy Gale, her evolution, and how her story continues to serve as a touchstone and symbol of hope for performers and artists today.
Through the format of a visual essay, It's Dorothy! weaves together the story of Oz, the influence of Judy Garland, and more, featuring interviews and stories from women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ voices who shine a light on the iconic character.
Directed by Jeffrey McHale, the documentary features many stage alums, including those who have played Dorothy, such as Nichelle Lewis, Danielle Hope, and Shanice Shantay. Amber Ruffin, Wicked author Gregory Maguire, director John Waters, Lena Waithe, and Rufus Wainwright also appear.
Wicked: For Good (Coming to Peacock on March 20)
Wicked: For Good will be available to stream on Peacock on March 20. The streaming release will arrive alongside behind-the-scenes featurettes as well as an exclusive new director's commentary from Jon M. Chu, a sing-along edition, and more.
Wicked: For Good is directed by Jon M. Chu and stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose. Other cast members include Tony-nominee Colman Domingo as the voice of the Cowardly Lion and Sharon D. Clarke (Caroline, or Change) as the voice of Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear.
Project Hail Mary (Coming to Theaters on March 20)
Fans of puppetry will have a chance to see the art form on full display in Project Hail Mary, a new science fiction film starring Ryan Gosling. Drama Desk-winning puppeteer James Ortiz serves as both the performer and voice for the alien creature "Rocky," who shares the screen with Gosling in the movie.
Based on the novel by Andy Weir, the movie follows Ryland Grace (Gosling), a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship light-years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. Reluctantly, he begins his mission to save his planet with Rocky's help.
The Comeback (Season 3 Coming to HBO Max on March 22)
The fan-favorite series The Comeback will return for a third and final season this month. Once again starring Lisa Kudrow as sitcom actress Valerie Cherish, the show is a comedic look at the entertainment and television industries and follows Valerie in her continued efforts to revive her career.
In addition to Kudrow, the cast of the new season includes Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman, Damian Young and Tim Bagley, Matt Cook, Ella Stiller, John Early, Barry Shabaka Henley, Abbi Jacobson, Oh, Mary! alum Tony Macht, Brittany O’Grady, Zane Phillips, Julian Stern, and Andrew Scott. Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien will also make a rare acting appearance in the show.
Jeff Ross: Take a Banana for a Ride (Coming to Netflix on March 24)
The filmed version of Jeff Ross' Take A Banana For The Ride, the Broadway show written and performed by the comedian, is coming to Netflix this month. The solo show ran at Broadway's Nederlander Theater in 2025 and marked Ross's Broadway debut.
Named for his beloved grandfather’s practical and loving travel advice, the production unveiled a rare autobiographical portrait of the Emmy-nominated comedian, tracing the early experiences and family relationships that shaped both his voice and his career. Developed specifically for the stage and shaped in performance before live audiences, the work represents Ross’s first theatrical solo show following more than three decades in stand-up and television comedy.
Forbidden Fruits (Opening in Theaters on March 27)
Lily Houghton’s stage play Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin, and Through Her We All Die is coming to the big screen in Forbidden Fruits. Houghton worked alongside director Meredith Alloway for the film adaptation, which stars Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung (Hadestown), Victoria Pedretti (An Enemy of the People), Alexandra Shipp (tick, tick... BOOM!) and Emma Chamberlain.
The plot follows Free Eden employee Apple, who secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of the mall store after hours, alongside fellow fruits Cherry and Fig. But, when new hire Pumpkin challenges their performative sisterhood, the women are forced to face their own poisons or succumb to a bloody fate. The film serves as Alloway's feature debut.
Theater Music and Cast Recordings
Bell Tower by Georgia Stitt (Releasing March 6)
Sierra Boggess, Kelli O’Hara, Tituss Burgess, and several other Broadway performers are featured on Bell Tower, a new album of twenty-six theatrical art songs from composer and lyricist Georgia Stitt.
The album takes its name from the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke, set to music by Stitt for voice, piano, violin, and vibraphone. The compositions stretch across three decades of Stitt’s career: from the “Two London Songs” written in the 1990s when she was an undergraduate at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music, to “The Trumpet,” written in the summer of 2025.
The album also contains three songs performed and recorded by Stitt and Rebecca Luker before the celebrated soprano’s passing in 2020. It will be released on March 6 by Concord Theatricals Recordings. Pre-save here.
Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) Original Broadway Cast Recording (Streaming March 20)
The new original Broadway musical comedy Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) will release an original Broadway cast recording starring Olivier Award-winning actor Sam Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen) and Broadway leading lady Christiani Pitts (A Bronx Tale, King Kong). The digital album is set for release on March 20, 2026.
The album is produced by orchestrator Lux Pyramid (collaborations with Suki Waterhouse, Rita Ora, and more) and co-produced by the show’s writers and composers Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, as well as the show’s Director Tim Jackson (Merrily We Roll Along, Dylan Mulvaney’s Least Problematic Woman in the World) and Music Supervisor Nick Finlow (Back to the Future, The Book of Mormon).
The musical arrived on Broadway last fall, following extended runs in Boston and London’s West End, and celebrated its opening night on November 20, 2025. “If I Believed” from the album has been released as a single and is available for listening below.
The Wizard and I: Liz Callaway Sings Stephen Schwartz (Streaming March 20)
Working Girl Records will release The Wizard and I: Liz Callaway Sings Stephen Schwartz, which will be available digitally on all platforms and at Amazon on March 20, 2026. On the album, the Emmy winner and Tony and Grammy nominee performs songs from composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, including tunes from Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, The Baker’s Wife, and more.
The live album was recorded over two sold-out nights at 54 Below in New York City and to celebrate its release, Callaway will return to the nightclub with three encore performances of The Wizard and I on March 18, 20, and 21 at 7pm.
The album features musical direction and arrangements by longtime collaborator and pianist Alex Rybeck. Also featured on the album are Ritt Henn on bass, Ron Tierno on drums, and Ethan Carlson and Cole Wachman on backup vocals. Pre-order here.
