Some people have been complaining about Jennifer Hudson's scheduled appearance on tonight's Tony Awards- claiming that it is "unprecedented" because she isn't on Broadway. For her performance, she will be singing a song from Finding Neverland, which is currently in the works for next Spring. Hudson will not be starring in the show when it hits Broadway; however, Harvey Weinstein defended her and told Deadline that Hudson has a big role in forming the new show.

Part of creating a new musical is workshopping the music. It helps the creatives gauge where the show is strong and where it's lacking. While Hudson will not be starring on Broadway as part of the cast, Weinstein confirmed that she will be a part of the concept album- which will be released shortly before the show hits the stage. Alicia Keyes and Taylor Swift were also present at the most recent workshop, though neither of them are said to be a part of the show.

Weinstein was very upset by the claims that Hudson shouldn't be at the Tonys because isn't and won't be on Broadway. He commented, "When people make these kinds of assertions, they're the ones making sure stars won't appear on Broadway."

The 2014 Tony Awards will air on CBS tonight, June 8 at 8pm.
