Guest Blog: 'It is No Ordinary Opera': Glyndebourne Chorus Member Andrew Davies on Dedication, Commitment and Talent by Guest Author
- November 19, 2025 La bohème. Glyndebourne. Three trumpeters blare out a fanfare as the chorus pours onto stage, ready to deliver the myriad vocal interjections which mark out the beginning of Act 2. But Glyndebourne is No Ordinary Opera, and this is no ordinary scene. On a single musical cue, thirty-six choristers, dressed as Parisian waiters and cafegoers, unload and set onto stage eight tables and thirty-three cast-iron chairs, while delivering musical cues with pinpoint precision, in just 38 seconds. It is a feat of preparation, dedication, talent, commitment and painstaking rehearsal, and is an example of what makes the Glyndebourne Chorus one of the most special in the opera world.

Review: THE FORCE AWAKENS IN CONCERT, Royal Albert Hall by Franco Milazzo
- November 17, 2025 The stories about the latest entry in the Royal Albert Hall’s Film In Concert series are insane. There was the intense secrecy over that moment, Daniel Craig’s secret cameo, Mark Hamill’s perma-beard and then the issues with Harrison Ford’s long hair and broken foot. With a sky-high budget north of 500 million dollars, the most anticipated movie of 2015 went on to break the $2bn barrier at the box office and JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the sixth-highest grossing flick ever made.

Interview: Ardent Theatre Company on Bringing Underrepresented Groups to The London Stage by Gary Naylor
- November 17, 2025 It’s easy to forget that, while we all know that theatres have four walls, they also have two doors. The one we all know has bright lights, glossy playbills, a welcoming foyer and, sometimes, a queue for a bag search, that mark of 21st century life. But where is the other? Hard to find, hard to get past a code pad for entry / scowling guard and hard to know what to do even if you’ve cleared those hurdles. You guessed it, it’s all a bit on the nose as a metaphor for breaking into theatre as a career.
