BWW Review: AMERICA ADJACENT and MAMMA MIA at Skylight Theatre Company and Agoura High School
by Jeffrey Scott - February 20, 2019
I had the pleasure of attending two performances from two opposite ends of the professionalism spectrum. One being a student directed, high school musical (well produced and performed, by the way) and the other a dramady produced by a well-respected theatre company chock-full of industry professionals both onstage and on the artistic side. But what they both had in common was that both of them experienced technical issues and the differences in how each handled said technical issues.
Conejo Players Theatre Presents the Macabre Musical Sweeney Todd

BWW Review: MINNIE'S BOYS at Musical Theatre Guild
by Cary Ginell - February 12, 2019
Musical Theatre Guild revived an oldie but not so goodie last Sunday at the Alex Theatre. 'Minnie's Boys' purported to be modeled on 'Gypsy,' using a meddlesome, domineering mother to get her progeny, the four Marx Brothers, into show business. Unfortunately, a tepid book and uneven score made this a flop in 1970 and it doesn't fare much better today, despite the valiant efforts of the MTG cast.
BWW Review: AS YOU LIKE IT at Camarillo Skyway Playhouse
by Jeffrey Scott - February 12, 2019
William Shakespeare's comedy 'As You Like It' plays through March 10th at Camarillo Skyway Playhouse.. A story of love and the rocky road to union, reunion, and redemption. Duke Senior (the versatile Mary Comstock) has been banished and her rule usurped by her brother Frederick (the ever- present Chris Clyne). Senior's daughter Rosalind (the prominent and formidable Ryanna Dunn) and Frederick's daughter Celia (the capable Libby Baumgartner) are best friends, and when Frederick suddenly banishes Rosalind, the two women disguise themselves and flee to the Forest of Arden, where the banished duke has taken refuge. Orlando (the stalwart Benjamin Blonigan), with whom Rosalind has fallen in love, also ventures into the forest to escape a villainous brother of his own. In this forest of witty fools, foolish wise men, men who are women in disguise, and people finding their true selves, love will blossom, villainy will be redeemed, and Nature will nurture all.
BWW Review: HEISENBERG at Rubicon Theatre Company
by Cary Ginell - February 11, 2019
Joe Spano and Ovation-Award nominee Faline England portray two lost souls who meet in a London Underground station and embark on an unlikely May-December romance. The story takes unexpected twists and turns that results in a life-affirmation display of how walls need to be broken down, and not built between people of different backgrounds and experiences.
