THE COMMUNION WITH SOUNDS & WORDS brings together spoken word poetry and music inspired by afrobeat, highlife, jazz, reggae and soul-funk. A live band will accompany the two-hour-long performance. THE COMMUNION WITH SOUNDS & WORDS is a communion of creatives and an amalgamation of art presented with words to heal and sounds to commune with the soul. Audiences can expect an intimately emotive fusion of music complementing the literary aesthetics of poetry and spoken word. Sounds & Words is a poetic band and artistic movement that seeks to blend the literary aesthetics rich in poetry and spoken word with different genres of music. Their objective is to reimagine creative spaces and art performances to facilitate a deeper level of communion with the audience. The band believes that their art carries a positive message that is worth sharing and engagement, and that speaks to an audience that cuts across the different spectrum of class and race within the society. The band is made up of Kolawole Gbolahan on trumpet, flugelhorn, percussion and vocals, Kagiso Noah on guitar, Riba Mwakusa on bass, Tefo Mahola on drums, Jorge Sepulveda on djembe and Bolaji Ayandare on talking drum.
