Review: Musical Theatre West Presents Spirited AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'
by Michael Quintos - Oct 23, 2024

Structured as a non-stop song-and-dance revue without any dialogue, the Fats Waller tribute musical relies on its spunky live band and its crazy-good, five-person cast to sing a songbook filled with (mostly) joyful and (some) sorrowful jazz tunes. The show continues through Nov. 3, 2024 at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach, CA.

Review: BBC PROMS: PROM 33 – TITANS OF BRITISH MUSIC, Royal Albert Hall
by Debbie Gilpin - Aug 14, 2024

There has always been much conjecture over what it really means to be British – most recently, a group of self-proclaimed “patriots” got together and trashed libraries, independent businesses, and community hubs across the country in the name of supposedly getting their country back. This, of course, isn't patriotism at all. Something that is often held up as a paragon of Britishness, however, is the Proms season; outside of the famous Last Night, this year's Prom 33 may end up being the most quintessentially British of the lot.

Review: BBC PROMS: PROM 13, SARAH VAUGHAN: IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW, Royal Albert Hall
by Louise Penn - Jul 29, 2024

A lively, varied and yes, sassy night celebrating a groundbreaking artist. If only a few of the audience headed off to listen to Vaughan's original recordings, that is a bonus. As Sarah Vaughan 'married operatic grandeur with the coolness of jazz', so this concert digs deep to showcase her range, personality, and love of life.
