ITV is putting on its own live version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE SOUND OF MUSIC this Christmas. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Julian Ovenden will star as 'Captain Von Trapp' in the upcoming live telecast, and according to BBC News, he'll be joined by Olivier winner Maria Friedman as Mother Abbess, Mel Giedroyc as Frau Schmidt, and Kara Tointon as Maria.

To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's MY FAIR LADY and the 60th Anniversary of Opera Australia, Opera Australia and The Gordon Frost Organisation are collaborating to recreate the original production Broadway production.  Multiple Award Winning star of stage and screen, Dame Julie Andrews, the first Eliza Doolittle, will share her knowledge with a new generation of performers as she directs this production.  Andrews was joined by Opera Australia's CEO Craig Hassell, Artistic Director Lyndon Terrancini AM, The Gordon Frost Organisation Managing Director John Frost AM and NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres to give the media an insight into what audiences can when the show opens at the Sydney Opera House on 30 August 2016. 

The Old Globe's 18th annual production of DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, starring J. Bernard Calloway in the title role, opens tonight, November 12, 2015 and will run through December 26th.

Due to critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons has announced a second extension of their New York premiere production of HIR, a new play by Obie Award-winning theater artist Taylor Mac (A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, The Lily's Revenge, The Walk Across America for Mother Earth, The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, The Young Ladies Of).

For generations, RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA existed only as a beloved television movie. First with a live broadcast in 1957 starring Julie Andrews; then in 1965 with Lesley Ann Warren, a version which was regularly re-broadcast into the 90s (which I grew up watching); and finally in 1997 with Brandy in the title role and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. However, in 2013, over 55 years after its first broadcast, led by Broadway's favorite princess Laura Osnes and crowned prince Santino Fontana, R&H 's CINDERELLA took its first Broadway bow. The show earned nine Tony nominations, running for nearly two years. Now, CINDERELLA's First National Tour sets up shop in its own little corner at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, with performances beginning on Tuesday night.

Andy Huntington Jones plays Prince Topher in Fairwinds Broadway in Orlando 2015-2016 series opener CINDERELLA. Jones is no stranger to the show as he was a part of the Broadway cast. While CINDERELLA on Broadway officially closed earlier this year, it's legacy lives on throughout the tour.

Anissa Perona shines as Maria in this well-directed version of the Bernstein-Sondheim classic.

Broadway star and Ephrata Performing Arts Center alum Catherine Walker will debut her new cabaret show, 'You Have to Start Somewhere: Songs From My Bedroom,' at EPAC's Sharadin Bigler Theatre tonight, November 7, at 8 p.m. Walker will ultimately be performing the cabaret at venues in New York City and other theaters across the country.

Signature Theatre has announced the cast of WEST SIDE STORY, directed by Signature Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner (Signature's Sunday in the Park with George, Cabaret). The musical, a collaboration of music, dance and theater giants Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerome Robbins and Arthur Laurents, is considered by some to be one of the greatest musicals of all time. The Public Theater announced today that the transformative, heart-soaring musical SOUTHERN COMFORT has been added to the 2015-16 downtown season. Directed by Thomas Caruso and based on the film by Kate Davis, SOUTHERN COMFORT features book and lyrics by Dan Collins and music by Julianne Wick Davis and was conceived for the stage by Robert DuSold and Thomas Caruso. SOUTHERN COMFORT begins previews on Tuesday, February 23 and will run through Sunday, March 27 in The Public's Anspacher Theater, with an official press opening on Monday, March 7.

For the third installment of his New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits--a wonderful new monthly series at the Metropolitan Room celebrating award winning and critically acclaimed cabaret shows of the past--Producer Stephen Hanks (and his Cabaret Life Productions) wisely chose Maxine Linehan's What Would Petula Do? A Tribute to Petula Clark. Although this show won no awards, nor received critical acclaim in 2009 (when I first saw it at the Laurie Beechman Theatre), Linehan's revival this past Monday night of one of her first cabaret shows could certainly be considered one the best of this or any year.
