As New York prepares for the 2026 Tony Award nominations and honors the recent Lucille Lortel winners, producers are facing tough questions about whether traditional 8 PM curtain times are driving audiences away. The business landscape is shifting heavily behind the scenes, marked by the merger of licensing giants BMG and Concord, looming strike ballots in the West End, and the Kennedy Center's controversial two-year shutdown. Despite these logistical and financial challenges—including a devastating embezzlement case at a Pennsylvania community theatre—there is plenty of positive momentum to report, from the rapid financial recoupment of the Suffs national tour to new initiatives supporting theater education and large-scale playwriting.

Ana Inés Jabares-Pita's set feels familiar and clearly defines time and place: The Departure remains in the 1960s; Making Arrangements moves into the 1970s, where a woman could choose to live independently; Four Sisters is in the materialistic 1980s, where 'greed is good'.
The changes of style in the music are notable, from the almost folk-style melodies of The Departure to the discordance of Making Arrangements and the patchwork of Four Sisters—all in all, an enjoyable evening highlighting women creators and changing social attitudes.

It is, however, the reason to wake up in the morning, the only thing that lights your soul on fire, and the place you can label home when you feel there is nowhere to go. So the question then becomes: How can I have a lifelong, fulfilling, stable career in the Theater?
