The Last Five Years - 2006 - London Fringe Tickets, News, Info & More

A man, a woman, a marriage…which lasted five years. The story, told in the exuberant and heart-rending songs of Jason Robert Brown, tells the story of the five years of a marriage, from intense love to a final, painful separation. However, there’s an intriguing twist: the man lives the five years from beginning to end, but the woman lives the five years backward, from end to beginning. Their “times” correspond only once, signaled by a remarkable duet.

A “must-see…and hear.”

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

There is something unexplainable and idiosyncratically intimate about Aria Entertainment’s The Last 5 Years. In a journey begun at Southwark Playhouse right before the pandemic hit our stages, Jonathan O’Boyle’s production of Jason Robert Brown’s beloved musical has redefined the piece itself to the point where now there probably isn’t a purest way to make the show.

Forced to live alone in a tower with nothing but her hair and her witch (literally) of a “mother”, Rapunzel’s sixteenth birthday has come – meaning she’ll be able to see the outside world for the first time, just as her “mother” promised. Scared to let her go, though, the witch reneges. Lucky for Rapunzel a young prince, named Brian, happens across her tower and calls out her as he’s seen the witch do: “Rapunzel! Rapunzel! Let down your hair!” Before the Prince and Rapunzel have their inevitable “happily ever after,” though, they’re going to have to face the wrath of the witch and few other hilarious obstacles.

Taylor Swift just dropped her second re-recorded album, Red (Taylor's Version), and I am more obsessed with it now than I was when it originally came out in 2012. So, in honor of this momentous album and all of the wonderful songs on it, I've decided to assign a broadway character or relationship to each of the 30 songs on the album, excluding acoustic versions and songs that are on the album twice. Also, I will be skipping 'Ronan' because that song makes me very sad and cry a lot and I cannot emotionally handle analyzing it.
