Review: SLEEPOVA at Olney Theatre Center
by Pamela Roberts - Mar 30, 2025

Grab your bunny slippers and pop some popcorn. SLEEPOVA is a coming-of-age story about the strong ties of female friendship amid the stresses and trials encountered on the road to adulthood. Like the teens themselves, the production at Olney Theatre Center is earnest, frank, funny … and a bit clunky and awkward.

by Jennifer Ashley Tepper - Mar 30, 2025

The rare feat of Operation Mincemeat lies in its tone. The show is a fast-paced, zany, comedic take on a mission that used a dead body to mislead the Axis forces, leading to the successful Allied invasion of Sicily.

Review: Tony-Winning Musical KIMBERLY AKIMBO Amuses at OC’s Segerstrom Center
by Michael Quintos - Jan 27, 2025

Winner of 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical, this quirky musical comedy with an intentionally-diffused serious undertone continues performances at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through February 2, 2025. A generally entertaining show with lots of laughs in spite of its title character’s fatal ailment, KIMBERL AKIMBO is a thematically zig-zagging new musical that is at once intentionally endearing but also surprisingly (and amusingly) chaotic. The show is ultimately winning thanks mostly to the wonderful performances of its two leads, three-time Tony Award nominee Carolee Carmello and her adorable co-star Miguel Gil.
