BWW Review: Gorgeous MAMMA MIA! Takes the Chaffin's Barn Stage in High-Flying Style
by Jeffrey Ellis - Sep 8, 2017

If not for the fact that she is already one on Broadway, it could be said that Rachel Potter's performance in Mamma Mia! - which opened last night at Nashville's historic Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre - was, without doubt or without danger of fulsome exaggeration a "starmaking turn." With a glorious voice and stage presence to spare, Potter's Sophie seized control of the opening night audience from the very first moment she stepped onto the stage, never relinquishing control for one second, even when sharing the stage with the redoubtable Martha Wilkinson, the undisputed queen of musical theatre in Music City. BWW Review: HARRY POTTER IN CONCERT Brings Magic to Audiences at JPAS
by Heidi Scheuermann - Sep 7, 2017

This past weekend, Jefferson Performing Arts Society (JPAS) in partnership with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), created the most magical and beautiful synergy of cinema and music that I have ever experienced.  I'm not even exaggerating!  I think I can speak for the rest of the audience as well when I say this the very best way (not only way, because it doesn't happen often enough) to experience the world that author J.K. Rowling created.  While Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone played on the big screen, the LPO was dressed in black with their instruments held high as they played the ENTIRE score from the very first twinkle to the end credits.   (more...)

BWW Review: STAGES St. Louis's Superb SOUTH PACIFIC
by Chris Gibson - Sep 18, 2017

STAGES St. Louis ends their season with an wonderfully mounted production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC. It's a classic musical absolutely filled to the brim with memorable songs, many of which have become standards. In fact, you'll likely find yourself humming any number of them as you head home after the show. Then there are the social issues that this Pulitzer prize winning drama tackles, which were groundbreaking for their time, yet still retain their impact today. Sadly, issues concerning race and acceptance have only intensified in our current volatile and divisive environment. Sparked by an excellent cast, this is an incredibly touching testament to the power this work still wields. (more...)
