The Billie Holiday Theatre Artistic and Executive Director Dr. Indira Etwaroo announced the line-up today for The Billie Holiday Theatre's Fall 2019 Season and 2019 a?" 2020 Season Highlights at their newly-renovated home at Restoration Plaza on 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11216. This historic landmark theater a?" theater home to the largest community of African Americans in the nation: Central Brooklyn a?" encompassing a 199-seat theater, state-of-the-art studio spaces, a gallery space, and outdoor plazas, has been home to world-class storytelling for 47 years. Forged in the sociocultural and aesthetic kiln of the Civil Rights and Black Arts Movements, The Billie Holiday Theatre continues to celebrate the diversity, intersectionality, and complexity of the African diaspora from around the corner and around the world with an almost-five decade, keenly honed consciousness for social justice through narrative.

Lavender Men, written by Roger Q. Mason and directed by Lovell Holder, had the largest audience yet for The Circle Series, a staged reading series hosted at  Circle in the Square Theatre The Circle Series is a brand new reading series that presents new and developing work on Circle In the Square's Broadway stage, home of the Tony-winning revival of Oklahoma! Inspired by work like Tony Kushner's A Bright Room Called Day, Lavender Men is a daring historical revisionist tale told through an experiemental queer lens. The reading played to a packed house on Monday, August 24.

Opening the contemporary dance season, the Kennedy Center joins the global centennial celebration of one of the most important figures in modern dance, icon Merce Cunningham. Featuring multiple events exploring the Cunningham legacy, the centerpiece of the celebration is performances of Compagnie Centre National de Danse Contemporaine-Angers (CNDC-Angers) on the mainstage of the Eisenhower Theater, from October 3-5. The company is led by Robert Swinston, who danced for Cunningham and worked side-by-side with him for over 30 years, and who now works to keep Cunningham's brilliant flame alive with dancers of today.

Crimson Square Theatre Company and the Beverly Hills Playhouse have announced a new production of Cock by Mike Bartlett. Under the direction of Michael Yavnieli, the cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Miles Cooper, Andrew Creer, Caroline Gottlieb, and Rob Ryel. Opening is set for Friday, October 18, at 8pm. Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actor Jeffrey Tambor (a?oeThe Larry Sanders Show,a?? a?oeArrested Development,a?? a?oeTransparenta??) is bringing his 6-week creative workshop, Performing Your Life: The Art of the Personal Monologue to The Ridgefield Playhouse, Tuesdays, 7-10pm, October 15 - November 19. Over the past four decades, Tambor has been an inspiration both on and off-screen, bringing many iconic characters to life while cultivating a uniquely personal approach to his craft. Tambor's workshop guides actors, writers and directors through the art of the personal monologue in a hands-on exploration of process. This empowering class focuses on identifying and conquering the fears that keep us from trusting our own creative voices. The class culminates with a performance on November 22 on The Playhouse stage, starring some of the students of the class showcasing the monologues they have worked on. Students will walk away from this workshop with a five-minute monologue a?" perfect for an audition -- as they move on with more courage, confidence and creativity in their career. This workshop is part of Adam Broderick Salon & Spa Whole New You Series with support from Reliance Merchant Services. Scholarships are available through the Beth and Bruce Becker Scholarship Fund.

Saudade Theatre, the first Portuguese theatre company in the United States, presents the World Premiere of My Favorite Suicide, written and directed by acclaimed Portuguese playwright Mickaël de Oliveira, in a coproduction with Lisbon-based theatre company Colectivo 84. My Favorite Suicide is an apocalyptic play that pits society and nature against each other, in which one extreme situation is debated in context of another, even more extreme circumstance.
