Last week the book 'Me' was released by the legend Elton John and it got me thinking about Elton's contribution to musical theatre. His music and his generous personality have touched millions. His musical fantasy movie Rocketman, that came out earlier this year, based on his life is one of the greatest, in my opinion, films ever made. He has such a passion and love for everything he does and what he has given the magical world of musical theatre is just as extraordinary.

Cortland Repertory Theatre closes their 48th annual summer season of professional live theatre with a BANG with the rockin' and rollin' musical Million Dollar Quartet, written by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux. Performances will run from August 28 – September 13 with evening show times at 7:30. Matinees are available on August 30, September 1, 4, 5, 8 and 11 at 2:00 PM.  Tickets may be purchased by calling 800-427-6160 or at the CRT Box Office at 24 Port Watson Street in Cortland. A memorial Concert in honor of the late Lizzie Grey to raise money and awareness for Lewy Body Dementia has been scheduled for The Whisky A Go Go on Sunday, October 13th from 6pm until 12 midnight, as announced by the surviving members of Lizzie Grey's band of 27 years, SPIDERS & SNAKES. Six bands will be performing at this all-ages show that will be interspersed with short information sessions on Lewy Body Dementia, the fatal disease that caused Lizzie Grey's death back on August 5th, 2019. In addition, special donation boxes will be set up by the LBD Association for the audience to make their contributions directly to, and special Lizzie Grey memorabilia will also be auctioned off by Lizzie's surviving family members with proceeds to benefit the Association's ongoing research for a cure.

The heavily anticipated 10th anniversary special engagement of Storm Large's autobiographical, one-woman rock musical Crazy Enough opens June 25 on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. Crazy Enough broke records at The Armory in 2009 with a sold-out, 21-week run. Beginning with stories of a childhood complicated by her mother's schizophrenia, Large takes us through the ups and downs of the years that follow - sex, drugs, running away to California, and the saving grace of rock 'n' roll.  Crazy Enough features original songs by Large and James Beaton, including the hilarious and incredibly catchy "My Vagina is Eight Miles Wide." Original music director Beaton returns to the production. Crazy Enough will open on Large's 50th birthday.

BroadwayWorld has learned today the complete cast, design and production team for Guys and Dolls, the first show of its second century, June 10 - 16.

Since releasing her first album under the name My Brightest Diamond in 2006, Shara Nova (formerly Shara Worden) has been a triple threat: an art-rock songwriter, a classical music composer, and a singer for whom a number of other contemporary composers have written music. My Brightest Diamond is where she gets to sing her own music, which is thoughtful without being mopey, and which demonstrates that songs sung from a woman's point of view are also capable of balls-to-the-wall attitude. Today we premiere the new video for her song “Dorian,” which is the second single she's released this year, after the Valentine's Day's song “Another Chance.” The occasion this time is the start of a new stretch of shows beginning on May 8 in Minneapolis and rolling into her old stomping grounds of New York on May 14. (Shara has lived in Detroit since 2009 but has continued to maintain a presence on the New York new music scene.) The song, which contains everything from birds to buzzing electric guitar, seems to occupy that tenuous place between love and obsession, between desire and the desire to control. The video is a similarly elusive blend of the abstract and the concrete, with hypnotic lines that resolve to form silhouetted people and birds.
